  • Costa del Sol booked and advice needed

    Evening gents,

I've just booked 5 days in the sun for me and the missus at Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf leaving in a couple weeks. I have an idea of the two boxes I'm going to bring back for my duty free allowance but want to bring back two boxes of some cheaper smokes also. Problem is I am not too clued up on the cheaper smokes. If you guys could let me know what you recommend I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance!

I reckon that Quinteros are your best bet - they're a decent cheap smoke and easy to get hold of. Other inexpensive options are the Rafael Gonzalez Panatelas Extra and the Por Larranaga Panatelas - they should both be very affordable in Spain. Hope you enjoy your trip.

        Hello Sirs,

Yes, I have tried Quintero's before and I suppose they are a good option or some Fonseca's?

Dherm, First two boxes will be a box of PSD4 and a box of Montecristo Edmundo. a couple of my favourites.

There is a new cigar that is better than the RG panatela: the RG perla. At €2.30/cigar, €57.50/box, you can't go wrong.

The Por Larra?aga panatela is not available in Spain.

Well since it's Spain your limit is 8 boxes per person, and at the price of some might as well stock up

Sorry Ethem I didn't know that, I've just heard some good reviews and that they're cheap on the continent. I still think that Quinteros are probably your best bet in the cheaper price range.

unforgivable, sir...you are no longer a worthy advisor! lol just kidding mate yeh i have to agree with you. Can't argue with 45 euros a box. Just wondered if I might be able to be abit adventurous and go for something else recommended. Although the RG Perlas do look pretty nice maybe that can be another of my boxes.

The RG Perlas are great cigars. I've smoked a box in the last month, all very good. 2.30 is a great price for them, half the price of the Monte 5, I'm not sure why.
The Por Larranaga Legendarios, Spanish regional, are very good. €114 for a box of ten. Good price for the same size as the 07 UK Magnificos.

There is technically no limit because it's the EU but customs start to get snippy at 200 cigars because they think nobody could use 200 themselves.

Ryan, is the construction ok? It's often an issue with the smaller RGs (pc and panatela extra)

No problems with construction in any of them, neither too loose nor any tight ones. I've smoked from three different boxes/packs of them, bought in different shops.
Not the nost complex cigar I've ever had but at ?2.30 a go and very fresh they have a very nice sweet coffee flavour. They remind me of little Cuban custom rolls.
