I am really enjoying my new Cigar Hobby...
I had a few days in Liverpool last week, and Turmeaus was only up the street from where I stayed!
The young lad in the shop was very friendly, full of knowledge and an all round nice genuine guy, which aren't easy found these days
Day One (Morning) - Por Larranga corona (aged) - I found it dry and grassy...But pleasant, Im still trying to find flavours!
Day One (Night) - Inka Secret Blend ( Azul Blue) - I really enjoyed this one after a few pints...Again, I cant find flavours, but it was a lot stronger than the PL, perhaps a little light on the draw, but not too bad.
Day two - (Morning) Quorom Robusto - This one felt very spongey, almost damp. It burned well, quite mild. I think I got a little sweetness from it, but by the end so much tobacco was coming out of the end, I was spitting it out everywhere! A pleasant smoke, but ruined by the "fall out" on the last third.
Day Two (Night) One recommended by Zeb, Alec Bradley Black Market - I had been looking forward to this one, and it was worth waiting for. Tightly constructed, probably the most solid feeling cigar yet...Cut well, light nicely and perfect draw. Here I began to find flavours I think, dark & earthy...Very strong and dark type flavours. Again, a good smoke, perhaps a little too strong for me, but not bad.
Day 3 (Morning) - RYJ Short Churchill - I tried not to have a pre opinion on this one, as I have found myself enjoying RYJ's more and more and expect them to be good. I found this one feeling very dry, so much so I was afraid to squeeze it in anyway after the wrapper cracked a little the first time.
My cutter might be loosing its edge, and it showed on this one - Then the wrapper unrolled a little, I smoked it back to front to avoid problems. I immediately got that "Cuban" flavour, but it might be my mind knowing its a Cuban...Earthy, and again, I seem to get a Plummy fruity flavour from these RYJ types...I had a cappucino with it, but I feel it would have been much better with something stronger. I really enjoyed it, so much so I almost burnt my finger tips!
Day 3 (Night) Home again...And with an Inka Secret Blend Azul Blue...To the shed, Beer, cutter and new rocket lighter from Turmeaus...This Inka was great....Very sweet...loads of smoke (I love loads of smoke) and I thought perhaps a taste of caramel perhaps, Im not 100% sure. But I have found a well priced smoke that I enjoy.
So...A great few days, some great smoking and I was really pleased by the smashing young lad in Turmeaus...He taught me a lot in those 3 mornings! Fillers, wrappers, binders...What a Maduro was and why it made the Inka better etc...So a big thanks to him.
I am really enjoying Cigars, and the forum....I also since my first ever Cigar have kept notes on each, and tonight it was great to look back. One thing I have found is that I have trouble finding flavours from Cigars, but I find Cigar flavours in other things. It seems like reverse tasting...
Just recently I had a Latte with a caramel type topping on it, and as soon as I tasted it...I remembered a Cigar I had a few days before, Now I didnt taste the caramel then, but knew it after...Its a little strange but true!
Now I have to decide to keep trying, trying and trying or get a collection together...Either way, its going to be enjoyable.
