Travel Humidor

Hi All

I am going away for 3 weeks and have bought one of the 10 stick waterproof, weatherproof, indestructible, drive your tank over it Travel Humidors..

Now how am I best off keeping it super fresh and tip top in terms of humidity ?

Is it a few drops of some special juice and or is a Boveda pack slipped in or something similar overkill ?

Depends where your going. Last time I went to a very humid country a took a DRY heartfelt bead tube as was using it to keep humidity down to be honest going somewhere that is not a dessert I don't bother with anything as box is airtight

I've tossed a small boveda in before, tbh they have such a good seal it's not really needed.

I've never used a travel humi that didn't have built in humidification, but if your really worried about it fluctuating then the safest way is beads/boveda.

Bought some Boveda sachets yesterday, an Alec Bradley Churchill, Black Market and a Corazon for good measure too otherwise it would have been rude

I would say a boveda packet is a must? Sealed or not if the RH of where you're going isn't a constant 60-70% I don't see why others have recommended no humidification? I just came back from london for just a weekend and took a sealed pouch with a small 69% packet in

Cause yours cigars are at the humidity of your humidor if you then put them into a sealed box your not going to lose humidity they will stay at that level though if you put a humidifier in that is not the best at absorbing humidity you will very easily and quickly over humidify your cigars

Ahh ok, but surely if that box is dry or too humid the seal becomes irrelevant? I kind of understand but still think a boveda would be useful (excess moisture absorbed and compensates for dry conditions by releasing some while preventing spikes that may even crack the wrapper. Ofcourse who still uses one-way humidification in this day?

A empty plastic travel humidor cant really be too dry can it or too humid as it does not really absorb moisture. The boveda is not going to stop spikes with humidity caused by temperature fluctuations. Your right nobody buys one way humidification any more like the full Xikar Range or there water pillows that people may confuse as doing the same thing as bovedas. Dry mista tubes as they used to be known

But what ever suits I will quite happily keep cigars for a weekend in xikar leather case and they smoke great.

IME, The seal on these are that good, coupled with no buffer (or absorbent) such as cedar, means they'll keep cigars in decent condition for at least five days. If it's being opened several times a day, that'll reduce the time it remains effective. As others have said, for any longer, you can pop a boveda in, but I'd recommend the lower range, say max 65% as the only absorbent bits will be your sticks and who wants a soggy cigar[emoji53]
