  • Cyprus Duty Free

I'm off to Cyprus soon and the town I’m staying in has no cigar shop, they all seem to be on the west of the island.

Can anyone advise on pricing at the duty free in the airports please?

I’m going to take some sticks with me but would like to pick some up on the way home.

Where abouts are you staying? Will you hire a car or are you planning on staying in one spot?

We’re in Protaras / Ayai Napa area.

Limmasol has a cigar store but we’d need to hire a car as you suggested.

Ok that’s not too bad, you’ve got a couple of options. I stay in Limassol but usually do a couple of days in Nissi Beach close to where you’re staying, it’s about a 45-60 minute drive to Limassol and you must be flying from Larnaca so you’ve got the LCDH in the duty free there.

LCDH Limassol has a website where you can check prices and stock, they do sometimes have more in store than what’s showing online but you can’t walk into the humidor since Covid so you’re relying on what you can see through the glass or how helpful the member of staff working is. If you decide to shop here it’s about a 5 minute drive from the Marina and old port, loads of nice restaurants and bars with plenty of parking along the sea front so I’d recommend parking up and taking a walk around.

I can’t advise too much about the LCDH in Larnaca duty free, I’ve never been able to find their stock or pricing online so I’ve always grabbed my allowance before heading to the airport. You could call them once there and enquire that way but I think you would need to know what you’re looking for and they would give you a yes or no of stock and pricing if they have it.

If you do hire a car make sure you photograph it on collection for proof of condition, the driving there is questionable to say the least and your insurance won’t cover you for knocks or scrapes in car parks so make sure you know what dings and scratches are on the car before you drive away.

There is at least one good shop in Nicosia, that’d be closer I think. Can’t remember if it’s a LCDH. I bought quite a bit there but three years ago.

If your flying to or from Larnica, they have a very well stocked LCDH, I’ve always found plenty of variety and aged stock, they cater to the Russian market. Nicosia has a reasonable LCDH and I think there is a shop In Larnica itself. However if your staying down in Ayia Napa or Protaras there’s not much in the form of cigar merchants.

Car hire is cheep in Cyprus. Last time I got one for €50 for 3 days. Larnica is only an hours drive from Ayia Napa. You could even cross the boarder and go to look at Farmagusta. Rental companies say your not insured, but the Turks will sell you a days insurance for €20.

            Hope this helps

Thanks all for the feedback. Sounds like there are several options, the online prices are very reasonable and Harper than Barcelona which I was surprised at !!!

Ironically I’ve come down with Covid (thought it was man flu) and it has absolutely hit me for six so the holiday is in the balance now.

Thanks for all the intel - I'm going for a couple of days next month - staying near Nicosia and flying in and out of Larnaca - so will have a look see and will update this thread with any additional information.

The latest feedback from friends in Cyprus is that the stock levels are very low everywhere...

I had a friend in the Pafos LCDH last week and they seemed to have a decent stock. He even got a box of Quai D'Orsay no.50 which seem to be like hens teeth at the moment!

Thanks for the update. I don't think that I will be able to get to Paphos as it is the other side of the island, but hopefully there will be some stock in either Nicosia or Larnaca as I assume that it is the same distributor for all.

Seems like a decent selection available there, considering the current stock shortages.

Yeah the Cyprus LCDHs are Phoenicia’s home territory and they are usually stocked quite well
