  • Finding Makambrang in Havana

For anyone wondering what the attraction is in going to Cuba when there are not many cigars and prices have gone up so much etc. This guy gets it. He travels well. The video highlights how most Cubans live, how friendly they are and how quickly a party starts. I got back from another trip to Cuba a few weeks ago and find myself missing it more and more.

    “Gringo!”

Sure helps to speak a little Spanish.

Looks like they all have a good time.

Wonder who won the care package?

Sure does! I told myself I would learn Spanish about 10 years ago. I'll maybe start next month...

Anyway. Nice little videos, thanks Ryan! He goes to Vinales, Trinidad. I've watched a couple in the background. Shows how tough times are for the locals.

But certainly makes me want to visit, and off the beaten track would be nice. OK I'll start on the Espaniol!

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

For Spanish, try Duolingo. It has got me conversational. Even the premium version is about £60 per year, though there is a free version. My accountant lets me put it through as a business expense. I did Spanish up to a point in school and worked with some Mexican lads in Chicago but I had forgotten most of it before going to Cuba for the first time about 15 years ago. Having a little Spanish will make for a very different trip, as you can see from his videos. I've never met friendlier people anywhere in the world, and up for a party at the drop of a hat. It's easy to get off the beaten track in Cuba, simply stay out of hotels and windowless VIP cigar rooms and you're off the beaten track. Even in Havana it's easy. Go to the Capitolio and head East one block, or West. Probably East first, Centro Havana to the West of the Prado is bit "off off"..
