Afternoon Chaps!
Help is needed in the dressing department!
Anyone been to a top end Horsey race meeting, I've been invited to the Dubai World Cup next weekend but it all seems a little rich for me, bit of a loose end as to attire & form don'tcha know, any tips from you guys (and wives) would be a great help...don't really want to turn up in my Barbour & chinos if it should be TH & Tails...

PS it is a serious question! Comfort may be out of the equation. Tails in the desert is not my idea of fun......

Have been sent an invitation by al Naboodah to attend their corporate suite on World Cup day, they have included everything even transport & accomodation!
I've GOT to go, just for the experience but really don't want to make a berk of myself, done posh hotels & holidays but not anything like this....

A kilt is both formal & casual enough for any occasion isn't it? Match it with a light weight sporran I have a morning suit for such occasions but never had such a generous invite, you should definately go.

Well to me a lounge suit is an ordinary suit, not pin striped etc. In the Mess at work if it was a lounge suit night type function I just wore my normal suit.
But I would imagine over there a lounge suit is a tad different.

If you are unsure ask your boss?? Or even a discreet word with your host along the lines of Yes I'm coming but to sav any embarrasment what is the acceptable dres code. If you look out of place it will reflect on your host. It's in his best interests for you to be properly attired

The kilt i a good idea as soo many people don't at what point it goes from smart to formal so gives you some margin of error to play in. The advice of asking your host is probably the best idea.

Having been to the Dubai World Cup a few times (work in horse racing) you would not be out of place in a suit and tie (take the tie off if you turn up and feel overdressed). Personally I always wear a blue or beige linen suit, and have never felt over or under-dressed. It is also not too hot.

You will see all sorts however. The shorts and vest crew will be out there, with tats on display. There will also be jeans aplenty.

Suit up. you can't go wrong!

lol.... it's certainly have to be a lighter weave!

Off to doha next week and the order of the day for me there is jeans, t shirt and converse! I'm not really a shorts man unless I'm swimming!

Suit & tie, bang on the money, (did wear my Kilt for a dinner on Sunday & got some real interest in my under-crackers of which I had to prove (with some decorum) were absent!
Interesting trip, but not my cup of tea, too many sycophantic haw haws to make it a pleasure
& definately not nearly enough cigars.....
