Yep the Guantanameras are not worth bothering with, at least in my experience anyway. Jose L Piedra CAN be a nice smoke but they are very inconsistent from stick to stick.

Another cheap option are Fonseca delicias, sweet and woody flavours and not half bad for the price. They are hand made but with short filler so although you get the cuban flavour you dont get the depth that you would from more expensive smokes.

This "caramel" thing is just a myth, some kind of cigar board legend. Before Min Ron Nee wrote about this caramel taste in his Encyclopaedia, NO ONE ever mentioned it on any forum. Suddenly in 2004 people that have never smoked an aged PLPC started to parrot this caramel story…
At best, aged PLPCs can deliver strong flavors of wild honey (no the cheap white supermarket honey), along with notes of flowers, nuts, toasts, spices…
They're delicious, but it takes them ages to get to this point…

Taste is subjective...

I ended up buying a few packs of Monte Puritos (I like to have a quick smoke between lectures at university, these seem like a great choice for that), I picked up a few Boli's but I couldn't help myself.. I went back to the shop the following day for a few more sticks. I purchased a Boli Corona, a few JC's, El Rey CS and I decided to take another Trinny Reyes. I'm hoping to get some Partagas SDN4's and/or H.Upman Mag 46 (they only had a 5 pack in store though ) but I'm going to age a few of my Bolivars.

When I get some funds in (12th Sept) I'll buy a a few SDN4's and Mag 46's. Thanks for your input, Captain, I really appreciate the advice.

No problemo, you're only a few years or so behind where I am now so it's always good to pass on info, especially when it comes to sidestepping pitfalls etc You're really lucky tp have a B&M near you, it's a deadland near me, not even our waitrose stock cubans and they normally have at the very least punch punch tubos

I've been meaning to try a Monte #5 or #4, I've never tried a PL PC, what sort of flavours are associated with one?

I'm heading into town tomorrow, I'm hoping to buy a H.U Conny 1 and perhaps a Monte and some more Boli's too. If anybody has recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

Going back tomorrow mate, I want to change course so I'm having a meeting with the Dean to say my reasons why, it's moving to a similar course where only one module changes, hopefully it won't be too much trouble. Yeah I recently tried to get a Conny 1 and was sorely disappointed. Perhaps I should ask Paresh to get some in?

Oh BTW, the JLP Petit Cazadores are well good for the money IMO. Pick some up if you're in Spain, at about a Euro each.
