  • Serie D No 4 and the 2009 crop.

I am currently in the Canaries and have been working my way through a box of serie D No 4 from NOV 2009. These are without a doubt the best Partagas I have been lucky enough to try for a good few years. I had let them rest for the past eighteen months and the age seems to have brought out the best in them.

They remind me of the Partagas from 2003 through 2005 which I also thought were particularly good years for Partagas. I know that Upmann from 2009 were really good and I still have a couple of boxes of those in the humi, but these D No4 are exceptional IMO.

Has anyone noticed the superiority of the 2009 crop above previous years, or is it just me?

I may jinx myself here but I have yet to have a single bad SDN4, they have all been exceptional.

The 2009 crop can be found in cigars rolled in 2011. The cigars stamped 2009 are (theorically) made with leaves from 2006 and 2007…

As for the PSD4, to me the mid-2000s were the worst years. Last time I bought a 25 box of D4s was in 2004…

Well, to be fair, 'crop' can be used to describe a selection of pretty much anything, so the 2009 crop could be referring to the 'crop' of cigars as opposed to actual crop of tobacco...

Pretty much this for the SND4 some of the others (898V) can be a bit iffy but never the d4s.

Have to admit that's how I read it, rather than ' the tobacco crops of 2009'

I have 2 PSDN4's, one is a 2009 and the other I believe is a 2010. May have one next Tuesday as it is my birthday
