UPDATED! Habanos S.A. discontinues production of the entire Trinidad cigar line

New news from the German LCDH:

We have posted about the discontinuation of Trinidad - and that has caused a lot of discussions. Even though we have been informed personally about what we have posted two days ago the NOW offical statement is, that Reyes, Coloniales and Fundadores will not be discontinued but only the other sizes such as Robusto T and Robusto Extra. Sales figures are just too bad to justify a further production. Always good to see more news from Havana every day. Stay tuned for more

They may have been testing the water!.... although, I had a box of Robusto Extra's from 07 that I quite liked, probably slightly overpriced as they are more than a Siglo IV... The thinner gauges that they are keeping are probably best for the flavour profile. With all the LE's and RE's now being produced they need to keep an eye on QC as each market will want them top notch, do they have enough top rollers to do a whole new batch of slow sellers? maybe not, RE's are surely fast sellers in home markets....

Trinidad is a great blend. It's just a bit over priced I think. If you have to choose between Trinidad and Cohiba (since the cost is about the same) it's really not surprising most people reach for the Cohiba. It's got the "bigger" name. That said, some of my most memorable smokes have been outings with the coloniales. One of my favorite cigars, to be sure, and yet one of the rarest cigars in my humi.

I think the German guy who started this story running may have a brother in the British government who looks after the PR on the Petrol strike:

There's going to be a strike/deletion, everyone goes out and stock up, oooops, we got it wrong there isn't going to be a strike/deletion.

Result; lots of sales of Trinidad cigars/petrol, happy retailers.

Sorry, if I'm repeating what others have already said but for clarity I wanted to confirm the following. The Trinidad brand is not being discontinued. The Robust 'T' and Robusto Extra have been d-listed, but will be replaced with two new sizes in the future (sizes and dates TBC). Needless to say H&F have ample supplies of the complete Trinidad range, including the two discontinued sizes, so no need panic buy just yet!
