Whilst I get lambasted for this I will be laying them down for at least 2-3 years before trying. This is my general policy (not always observed) for all new sticks.
My problem is if I taste them young it taints my mind as to what I think of them. I know they will be soo much better with a few years initial ageing (and normally out of the first 'flat' period) that that is when I want to form my first opinion.
It does require effectively buying blind (un-tasted) and then laying down but I am ok with it. Many of my fellow smokers thinks I am mad but I am now at the point where I have a humi full of good sticks to try ...so why spend (my limited) smoking opportunities testing cigars that have a high likely-hood of being 'ok but too young to tell'.
...of course this is all just for me, and where I am with my collection and hobby
wish i was at that stage, don't think i ever will be! i'm just not blessed with patience.....
I don't think your mad Monks (I do really.. )...I'm laying down 5's untried knowing they have to be better....still won't be able to get any more though & the rate, as Arf says, they're bringing them out I can't afford to take a chance on boxes...& besides that I won't live long enough to smoke 'em....
At least with Trini you can do a 6 box split & get to try one... way to go!
Until you have to make room for the next LDdH release you mean .... which at the rate they're going Monk is probably next Wednesday!
the only other new release I am interested in is the Monte 520. I am not excited by anything else. I think the large guage Monte's really work with the dark wrapper and this will be held in the same vaulted esteem as the 2008 Sublime is now.
What I have been convinced of for many years is the benefit of buying first/Original release. There is no doubt that whilst future sticks may be of the same standard/blend there are plenty that are not. Again this means buying blind and when available (which is not often the same as when you want to spend the cash).
Always more room in the Humi, just not the bank account
