I got caught by this is my noob days, bought a cigar called a 'Siglo' from a US site for about $2, yellow band and everything, thinking it was a Cohiba Siglo. I thought I'd hit jackpot, all these other people were buying Siglo's for $15 and upwards! *facepalm*
yet to smoke it, might be good
No doubt, the so-called Cuban seed promoted is from many generations ago.
Regardless, it's all about the soil.

Exactly...Cuban seed is just the seeds (if you've ever seen any, thousands can fit in a zip lock baggie) that were brought over when the original owners and relatives since have brought with them. Mainly just a marketing gimmick now since you're also correct that it's the soil that makes them taste the way they do.
As for the names, only Cohiba, of the big guns, is a name that was born after the revolution and they have, in fact won a copy write lawsuit here in the U.S. and should they ever be able to sell here they would have the rights to the name. Until then, it will be made by the NC making them now for America. Also, like has been said, the original owners of the companies that are so well known who were forced to give up their businesses when they were nationalized emigrated and kept their company name when they restarted the business elsewhere, hence the one's made in Cuba are really the fakes. Just kidding there.
And you can say what you like, a very expensive cigar here is around $10 - $20 with the average cigar being on the lower end. For that price compared to what sticks are sold for over there because of your high taxes, I'm glad I'm used to the NC's.

Sounds like Pappy Coro was a pretty wise man.
As for the Rosado Sun 858s, over here a box of 25 7x48s is €250.56. The box of 6x47s is €229.08. At today's exchange rates of course. And, of course, like you said, they are currently out of stock.

The A. Fuente 858, by definition, is 6 X 47, although A. Fuente produces Sun Grown/Rosados in other sizes, e.g., Magnum 5 X 52
Also, there appears to be some confusion about this stick - is it "Sun Grown," is it a "Rosado," or both.I've concluded these terms are interchangeable, but I could be wrong.
Finaly, for a single stick, I paid the equivalent of 3.46 pounds, or around 86 pounds per box. which is absolutely the lowest price I've seen and I suspect it's a mistake. More common, a single stick goes for around 9 plus pounds.

Well, honestly I thought you were in Great Britain.
The price I gave was for the Rosado Sun over here in the U.S. from the supplier I use and I've never found anyone less expensive. The 6x47 are in boxes of 20 for $173.38 or ?108.04 (sorry, I keep forgetting that GB uses the pound and not the euro). A single stick is $8.67 or ?5.40.
In some cases the "original" copyright owner I.e fled before the revolution and have since sold the name to the big American company's.
Who namewise might now be living on borrowed time. Company names belong to companies. Individuals whether they own the company or not cannot sell or give away the company name.
If you want to, you can.

Did they taste Cuban and like the Cuban r and j blend (more than can be said for a lot of the Cuban r and j's these days).

More or less, but without that Cuban 'zing'. Very similar flavour profile, though. I'd happily smoke them in place of Cubans if I wanted to save some money - they were a very satisfying smoke whereas most of the other NCs I tried were only just acceptable.
