  • Cohiba EL 2014 at JJ Fox

    Hi,

I was at JJ Fox's the other day for the first time ever. Rather nice looking store, the sales person was a bit too cool for my taste. A simple smile would have been nice to get, but oh well. At least he left me alone when I said I'm just browsing.

However, I ended up buying a Cohiba EL 2014 to find out what all the fuzz is about. And this is the peculiar part. I only thought about it afterwards. There was an open box of them and I looked at the top three. The ring gauge is supposed to be 58 I think. However, the top three in the box where very very different in width.

To be sure I held the feet of the slimmest and the thickest against each other and indeed, they were significantly different in width. Roughly 3mm in diameter.

It seems highly unlikely that Cohiba produces such differences in size, isn't it? Am I missing something?

PS: I bought the fat one...

3mm is about 7 ring gauge difference which would basically make it a robusto. I would guess that if there was such a significant difference it would have been some non EL cohibas placed in the wrong box (by the shop or a customer)

Well, it had the Cohiba EL 2014 band on it and it wasn't loose, so it couldn't have been someone taking another cigar and putting a EL 2014 band on it... Does anybody have one of them at home? I could meassure mine and we could compare.

Curiously enough the time before last that I was in there I asked to buy the last two Bolivar Lonsdales in the box and when we got to the counter one turned out to be the next size up, super corona?
