I often see posts about freezing Cuban cigars purchased in Cuba while on holiday. I take it this doesn't apply to Cubans purchased in spain etc.. Are Cuban cigars treated before they leave Cuba for export?

Yes they are, it only applies to those bought in Cuba, or the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua etc. I froze the box I bought in the DR.
Sorry to jump on this post - I store my cubans and NC's in different storage (i always feared the NCs could have the dreaded beatles) - however as expected my Cubans are currently at 23 degrees and i cannot help but shake the fear of an outbreak. The cubans i have only ever bought from reputable sources, etc...
Sorry to be a kneejerker, this is my first summer season, and since i started in winter i have gone from a 50 humidor to a very large scuberdo, and fear my delicious and expensive collection could be ruined
Never froze a cigar and would never have any intention of doing so.... If I actually had many left and intended to buy more than the odd one or two. Lol

I was in the same position last year...but now I'm quite relaxed about it...I've only frozen a custom rolls bundle I bought otherwise the heat isn't too much to worry about...our heat wave doesn't last too long to cause something to worry about.
I freeze most. Not worth the chance in my opinion what we call a cigar beetle just does not eat tobacco and can be found natively in a lot of countries. I have personally seen a lot of beetle holes in shops in Spain etc. Does not do any harm so better safe than sorry.
