Are the older sticks much nicer because of the aging or do you think the tobacco quality was much better years ago.?

Interesting idea! I don?t know, I much preferred aged sticks however. Give me a ?98 over most cigars!Originally posted by Kickback View PostAre the older sticks much nicer because of the aging or do you think the tobacco quality was much better years ago.?
Favourite Monte is not something I can really comment on, I?ve had good montes, but I?m a sucker for a #2 shape! So probably that.

Ahhhh the question with many opinions and answers...Many people will argue about tobacco quality over the last 20 odd years! Let alone 50! There's certainly been changes in the strains and the cross developed types. Have a read https://www.cigaraficionado.com/inde...el-corojo-7051Originally posted by Kickback View PostAre the older sticks much nicer because of the aging or do you think the tobacco quality was much better years ago.?
A lot of tobacco seeds from Cuba have found their way around too so you can still find older types around.
How the current tobacco is ageing after 20 years? Time will tell
Let s know - ill be almost 70 by then - if im around

Don't get addicted to 20+ year old Cuban cigars .... unless you have lots of spare money. And even then people wont give it up!

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

I was only thinking tobacco quality as everything these days is done at the lowest cost rather than the highest quality.
I'd be glad to know if industry experts think the quality of fermented tobacco has got worse, stayed the same or improved over the last 20 years.
I hope it at least stayed the same.

My understanding is that Cuba has changed the tobacco leaf type a couple of times since the 90s to try to combat diseases etc; and many believe this has had a negative impact on the flavour, and more specifically the ageing qualityOriginally posted by Kickback View PostAre the older sticks much nicer because of the aging or do you think the tobacco quality was much better years ago.?

Yes I held back from contributing with my views as I have found the EL's to my favourite Monte's but people did seem to be sticking to the Regular Production sticks.Originally posted by Simon Bolivar View PostHere's two contenders no one else has mentioned: the Monte Robusto 2000 & the EL 2001 DC, both superb smokes IMHO.

The especiales and especiales#2
in my opinion ... are in a different league than ALL other monties and should be judged accordingly .
the best that monty has to offer ... and(fer myself anyway)should be kept a deep dark secret ... have smoked a few more especiales (maybe a dozen or so boxes) than #2?s (perhaps 8 or 10 boxes).
have been smoking both since mid80?s
