May I make a suggestion, senor BrewCrew....go for the Royal Corona frist. I have smoked the Belicosos and while it's a fine puro, my favorite stock Bolivar is the Royal Corona.

But that's just me, TJ, TJCoro, and I the Habano Bolivar.

BTW, when will Texas become the Republic of Texas

          Hey J-Brew,

I'm sure the more replies you get the more options will start floating about in your head, so hopfully this won't confuse you even more.

First, the suggestion to get some singles if you can isn't a bad one, although if you stick to the big Cuban brands I doubt you'll end up with anything you really don't like!

Just on some of the cigars already mentioned:

Both the Partagas D4 and the Boli Belicosos and Royal Coronas are "full" smokes but I've never found this descriptor very helpful (perhaps someone can explain to me?!). The D4 is very peppery and as a light and relatively new cigar smoker they don't really do it for me. If you like the pepper and spice then I'm sure you'll love them. I absolutely love both of those Bolis and, unlike TJ, I plumped for the Belicosos - a box is on the way. Although they're very full in flavour, they have an amazing viscous smoke that coats the mouth and makes everything taste really creamy. As such I found them a much less powefull, but still "full." The two are very similar and if you like one I'm sure you'll like the other. It all comes down to personal taste in the end.

          Cheers,

          Olls.

If you're looking for fuller flavour, I don't honestly think you'd go far wrong with the Partagas Serie D No. 4, Bolivar Royal Corona or Beli Fino or the Ramon Allones Specially Selected. Cannot believe nobody mentioned the RASS yet...

Good shout - I forgot to mention the RASS. Similar in taste to the D4, in my opinion.

If placing order to the states should you order your smokes bandless?

1001 are probably your best bet for singles, although C of H our sponsors have piramides and robusto selection boxes on this link that would be a good idea to try http://www.cigarsofhabanos.com/detai...ptype=1&pid=23

                    come in nice boxes too....

All great recommendations. Love the D4. One of my favs. The RASS is another great choice. You really can't go wrong with any robusto choice, except for maybe the cheapies, and even those serve its purpose (hand out to non-smoking mates, yard-gars, etc.).

I cannot personally speak for 1001, because I have never ordered from them, but many here have and have had great results. They also seem to have a better singles selection. I never request to remove the bands, but it is not a bad idea if you want to be extra cautious.
                      Happy Smoking!

I just got my first box

I just got my first box of Partagas Series D4 (10 Box) from CoH. They arrived in no time at all. The box eas shipped in great care, and arrived in perfect condition. Thanks for the recommendation, I smoked one already, I will be storing the remainder in the humidor for a while to savor when the time is right. Thanks everyone for the recommendations and the conversation.

                        J-Brew.

                          Wups!

Sorry for the delay in replying, brewski, but I just noticed this post.

                          IMHO, I wouldn't (and don't).

Firstly, most of the retailers are pretty savvy and send your order discreetly. You won't find a big "CUBAN CIGARS" sticker on the package or anything.

Secondly, on the two occasions I've had my Cubans sent without bands (neither time requested), there was some damage to the wrappers, apparently done by a sloppy band remover drone.

                          migh too sense

                          YMMV

An excellent point, well made. I always used to take my bands off (just a habit) before I smoked a cigar. I've stopped doing that now as some seem mighty difficult to remove, and I don't want to catch the wrapper in doing so... unfortunately a chap on minimum wage probably won't be quite as concerned.
