  • Interesting smoking day and something worth finding.

I spent a few hours smoking today. I think some of my thoughts are worth passing on for once as one of these stand out smokes is available for you guys to try (London).

I popped into La Casa in Teddington for a smoke with Ajay today. For once I had a CLEAR plan on my first smoke. When I was in last week with the forum lot Ajay showed me the cigars the members had been sampling on the previous Thursday.

Some of you may be aware of the Bolivar Centenary Dinner humidor which was released in 2002 as a UK exclusive. These humidors were numbered and contained one hundred Belicosos Finos and one hundred Royal Coronas. I have seen one of these before in Sautters. They opened it and are selling the sticks individually. I had wanted to try one of the Belicosos Finos for some time as I have enjoyed the 2001 examples of this cigar (cabinet) repeatedly but I had yet to get around to it. Well it turns out the H&F had at least one example of this humidor still in stock but that was badly split/damaged. Ajay purchased just the cigars from them so that his members could smoke them without him having to make a dent on his example of the humidor. During the forum visit he was telling me what an amazing smoke the Beli Fino turned out to be. Deano smoked one and perhaps he will comment what he thought. I did not try it that day as Ajay spoilt me with something very special so I had every intention of smoking it today. When Deano was smoking it I commented on how it smelt of cannabis/weed. Ajay look shocked and said that he had heard the same from a member on the previous Thursday.

So to get to the point at long last, I smoked the Beli Fino from the humidor today and what an amazing smoke. Mellow and smooth but with a rounded flavour. A deeply pleasing and utterly relaxing cigar. I strongly suggest if you can get one of the VERY few Ajay has left when paying him a visit that you grab the chance with both hands. If you go near Sautters then equally grab one to try. The reports on the Royal Corona are also good but not to the same extent. This stick will cost you twenty eight to thirty pounds but dear god it is worth it.

I was running out of time after this cigar so opted for a smaller smoke, a RyJ Cazadoras. Again I had wanted to try this for ages, interesting, worth a try, but nothing staggering.

As I was smoking this Ajay opened an April 2001 box of H Upmann No.2. The aroma from this cigar was shockingly good. Ajay decided on the spot to smoke one after he finished his lunch. When he lit it up, he looked like he was going to cry or orgasm. We both commented on how this cigar (and brand) was one we would hardly ever seek out. He said this went straight into his all time top five of aged smokes. With hearing that I knew I had to try it and WOW, spicy, sweet, coating your entire mouth. I know by the time you read this they will all be gone but again, give one of these a go some time soon. If the standard ones are half as good as the 2001 I smoked then what a revelation.

Sorry for this messy and rushed post, but I wanted to get it up while fresh in my mind.

The Centenary was absolutely lush and a great example of a smaller cigar. I was completely mellowed by it and even Jimmeh commented that I smiled. I'm pretty sure I didn't.

Definitely going to follow up with another in the near future - in fact Ajay wants a few of us there Saturday week if anyone's up for it.

Very enjoyable read and the responses as well, thank you.

Speaking of the H.Upmann #2,if there are any robusto fans out there,The H.U. Connoisseur No.1 is a fantastic cigar.
My best discovery of 2009 without a doubt.
For me the cigar has everything..
                strength
                full bodied chewy smoke
                superb richness
the aroma is to die for
                consistently good draw
(I guess should copy this to reviews)

                    very interesting
ive grown to REALLY like the sir winston, the pre 2000 of these ive tried in JJs, very very light, all the characteristics of a good aged cigar but lacking strength of body and slightly lacking strength/progression of flavour.
i never ever hear or see people smoking upmann 2s... this week ill try one in JJs, or make the trip to ajays on wednesday/thursday

I also had the pleasure of smoking the BBF from Ajays stash of Centenary smokes. It was like nothing i had ever tried before and loved it. Well worth a recommendation.

Deano, I'd be up for the 27th?
