  • SLR Churchills ..... good?

I've been thinking about getting just one or two or so Churchill cigars as I don't have any in that size. I've been through a few reviews and kinda like the sound of the SLR. JJ Fox have some 2000 aged Tubos available. The price seems not to bad and the white tubes look really elegant, well to me anyway.
I think this is a to-be-deleted vitola, although so are the Punch, but JJ's don't have any as singles.

Any views on the SLR anyone?

I cannot get excited over the SLR. I revisited the brand before, at and following the JJ Fox relaunch and tried the DC, Serie A and a few others. It is a sound smoke but lacks any real wow factor for me, especially since the samples being smoked had age on them. There is no strength to speak of and no lovely flavours like the H Upmann Sir Winston, a good Romeo, et al.

Unfortunately, they didn't appear to have those available as singles at the moment either. Some sort of run on Churchill's maybe.

Never had the churchill but had a regios, which had been languishing in the humi for some time at the weekend. Having read many excellent reviews I was downright disappointed. In its defence my recent humi probs may have played a part or it may just have been a bad 'un, and fully intend to give one another chance.
It certainly looked the part but draw was very tight flavour seemed spicy and leathery but very one dimensional. Burn, to be fair, was excellent but was hard work to smoke because of tightness. I was told that the ash was a feature and would be great for a comp like Kam's recent one, well not with mine, it wouldn't hold for much more than half an inch or so.
I won't go on any further because as it seems to be held in high esteem by so many. I assume I was just unlucky and will try again, it's just blooming annoying when one you're looking forward to, and have heard so much about lets you down.

          hey arf,
funny, i was thinking the same thing as you!!! miss moran's here in belfast have some 1998 ryj and hdm churchills, and some 1990 slr's!!! all priced at ?20 each (i think)!!! would love to here some opinions on these, because any ryj churchill i've had have been tubed singles, and i've enjoyed them, so would like to hear opinions about what a 12 year old one would be like!!!

also, as big T suggested, i'd love to try an h upmann sir winston, but alas, there's non of these as singles!!!

you got me thinking now mr tippex

Don't give up on this marca. We've recently discovered a master case of '98 SLR Churchills. They are absolutely delicious, dark and rich w/ a sheen.

One of the best churchill, very complex, not very strong but however satisfying. The tubos version is quite rare - I'd say go for it!

Eggy mate, a dilemma indeed. I too am in a quandary, however 3 things spring to mind.
                      1) the sticks have 12 years age and still look great. What will she be like in 12 years?
                      2) the sticks will give over an hours pleasure each and won't answer back.
                      3) if you don't like the sticks you can sell them for money, the babe will cost you whether you like her or not.
                      Decision any easier now mate?

Sincere apologies to the beautiful young lady in question. All meant in good fun.

I"ve had only one of these and I have to say although it was good, for me it was way too mild. I just can't put up with such a mild cigar in that vitola

I can definitely agree with this sentiment, if I was smoking a cigar for that long, Id want it to floor me at the end.

I think I'd be happy too. Working in a cigar shop with a lass like that!
