We'll if you have never experianced a NC with cuban nuances then its your loss. If I had not experianced this epiphany myself I would have agreed with you. I wasnt searching for it, it just came to me out of the blue from a cigar or two that had been sent by BOTL on this forum with no words to cloud my judgement.

I think its time you removed the cuban only "hater blockers" and saw the light.

PS if anyone has a fine Jamaican cigar they are willing to part with I would be very interested in a swap

I am yet to be one over by NC's but I remain with an open mind (feel free to persuade me ).

The problem with CC's is the inconsistency but when they are good they are magic.

I am also now convinced that a lot of us acclimatise to what we a are used to/choose and it is hard to have a truly open mind.

I read somewhere some time ago that there was a high incidence of natural Lithium in the Cuban soil and this transferred to the leaf etc and this made the Cuban cigar different from other countries where it does not occur so much. I reckon that's why we relax so much when smoking fine Cubans

i have to kinda disagree. i get these cigars from a guy in florida that i know and they taste cuban! they dont taste like a cuban, they taste cuban! from what i have been told, the tobacco is from nicaragua.

i would say if you had 10 of them, you would get that taste (cuban taste, twang or whatever) out of 7 of them. they can be a bit inconistant. but i know there is no way in hell i could pass a blind taste test. not with these.

I am a firm Cuban cigar man and only like a handful of NCs that I would purchase again and these usually have that Cuban "thing" going on that I cant put my finger on.

Its not just the taste or the kick as there are huge differences amongst the habanos variety them selfs but more of an essence or the soul of the cigar that you can pick up on.

althougth i cannot speak much i have 2 say althougth i have liked the very few ncs i have smoked they are a bit one dimesonal compared to the cubans. saying that nc contrcutoin is way ahed of cuban constructoin any day of the month

And not one to split hairs, or infinitives, I can promise you that there are NO cigars that taste at all like Cuban cigars, except... Cuban cigars.

Now if it is merely kick that you want, I'd skip those tasty Behikes and go with any number of currently popular "boutique" cigars from Nicaragua, especially those "all ligero", black-dyed, wedge-shaped, 64 ring, 4 in. long products of those "families who lost all their land when Fidel kicked them out".

Just read something interesting on another forum I frequent:

"While I was in my smoking-alot-of-cubans phase, I noticed a particular taste that stood out that I really enjoyed but I couldn't exactly place it. After several weeks it hit me. It reminded me of the oral-anesthetic Anbesol. I know this sounds crazy, but I looked into it and found that Anbesol is Phenol based and Phenols are found in Cigar Tobacco. It seems, to me at least, that some Cuban leaf has a higher proportion of Phenols than alot of non-cuban leaf. But there are non-Cubans that I've found that have that same phenol punch or twang that I think some people are referring to. I find Oliva cigars to be consistently similar in flavor to those twangy cubans(Bolivar/Partagas), particularly the V Series and Cains which are both Nicaraguan Puros.

......if you consider many of the blind ratings out there, you will see that a Nicaraguan Puro will often outshine a Cuban."


I'm not trying to denegrate Cubans in any way - I prefer them (generally).

Have to second the Olivia V, Ive had a few cuban tasting NC, and these are what I tend to go for in a cigar. I have found the cuban crafters Miami edition and the padilla 1948 to have cubanesque profiles.
