  • Price rises were needed

The recent Cuban cigar price hike has caused quite a stir in the world of cigar aficionados. There have been reports of price increases or between fifteen and one hundred percent, depending on the brand, with yet further increases on the horizon.

They don't mention the hurricane recently and the lack of ability to rebuild. The large exodus of people from Cuba. With a lot of factories not able to populate with workers. Lack of packaging causing huge stockpiles of rolled cigars in Cuba. I don't expect any of the additional money to go to the workers.

Some more commentary and views here.

I just had an email from an online retailer stating that once again there are further prices increase coming..

“The most notable increase will be the Cohiba. There will be a 50% increment for the Behike line and about 15% for other products.”

and also for New Words -

“Alec Bradley, Arturo Fuente, Drew Estate and E.P. Carillo have already announced the price adjustment percentage. One significate price increase would be Davidoff. With an average 7% price increase and a 20% increase in the Winston Churchill Late Hour series.”

God I wish I purchased a few more last year!

This is England! Still have a shitload of Russians stuck on stockpiles of cash and nothing else to do but buy lux goods. Not to mention the hoards of young Nigerians with oil money and an itch to puff a few puffs of the best leaf to impress at parties🤣

And not one mention of Chinese. Still trying to buy up everyone's stock in London apparently.

I don’t like the price increases any more than the next guy.. BUT if anyone has a business where they can increase prices and still sell stuff, they probably would.

There are always levels in everything right. If BMW raises its prices for no good reason, and you’re not happy, then buy a Hyundai. This is not a necessity we’re talking about like bread or milk (anyone seen what’s happening to grocery prices?!?)

Whiskey, Cigars, Watches, freaking cashmere coats. Whatever it is, if it’s a luxury, they’re going to rip us off.

There will always be better priced brands finding that gap left behind

Yeah but we do like a good moan when it's cigars. Especially when it's only a cigar. Been working my way through various other options. But not finding many I'm liking! And some are well recommended. A few options I will go back to to confirm so far.

Good job the exploration for me is a good part of the enjoyment. I'll be exploring some more next CGars event 😁

Hyundai you say .. let me take a look..

I also do understand the need for the increase.. but it’s just a bit of a shame that this puts a number of cigars that I wanted to try out of my budget. But I also I do realise that these are luxury items and this is a 1st world problem to have.. I am still exploring different cigars anyway - which I agree is totally part of the fun!

Oh for sure I feel the same, and especially the feeling of why “the F has it doubled from one day to the next?!” And also when there should be some solid daily sticks at a fair price across the catalogue, and add some super premiums. Every bugger has done this across luxury items. Sadly we love our sticks so it’s painful, especially when it’s a consumable

                    Hyundai or RA 230 🤣

I think I'll need to buy a few late hours before the price hike.

Hey Niela I'm reading elsewhere basically yes. There was a Cuba price list knocking around recently.

Examples (last 3 col is each, ???, box in USD)

                          BOLIVAR BOLIVAR BELICOSOS FINOS CB-UW-C/L-12,13-n-25 CB-UW-C/L-12,13-n-25 3,889.51 93,348.24 13.65 0.00 341.25

                          RAMON ALLONES ALLONES SPECIALLY S E L E C T E D S L B - U W - G P S RM - n - 5 0 S L B - U W 2,9 6 9.4 0 7 1,2 65.60 14.35 0.00 717.50

And yes it seems, CoRo are 1,732.50 USB for a 25 cab.

According to that list you could get 2 x 50 cabs of RASS for 1 box of CoRo! I know which option I'd choose.
