There is a box of 25 for sale at an auction local to me and I was wondering if these are worth a punt? Not very knowledge on the vintage cubans so any advice would be welcome. Sitting at around £400 in bids at the moment.

    Description is:

SEALED BOX OF ROMEO Y JULIETA 25 CELESTIALES FINOS CUBAN CIGARS. SERIAL NUMBER 0.504.665, BOX MARKED 5/71

I personally wouldn't risk bidding unless I could see the condition of the cigars and try to find out how they've been stored. If they are cello wrapped that may have helped to preserve them to some extent.

Always a gamble buying sealed boxes, I can tell you they weren't bought in the UK, as all boxes are opened by H&F. The tax band might be Spanish? I have bought a sealed box before & took the chance & it worked out that time (Mitch advised me he'd never sold a bad box form that collector), but I'd say £400 is about as high as I'd want to go personally. Depends how much you love R&J? Vintage ones are rather nice if well stored over the yrs, unfortunately you're not gonna know that so the only test I know is tap the box on a white sheet of paper, if dust comes out, there might have been beatles in there. Personally I'd be with McDee on this & say it's to risky, for a £100-200 I'd take a punt but £400 is too much for me to gamble. It's not as if it's a know cigar auction site. If the seller knew anything about cigars they'd sell at Cgars or JJ Fox so it might be a relative selling a box they found in a drawer after someone passed away.

Cheers guys. You're right, at a lower amount it's worth a punt but the price is quite high considering the gamble.
