  • Simon B's Encyclopedia of Cuban Cigars A: Almirantes & Antonio Blanco.

Finally thought of how to share some of my extensive cigar photo library & in part a little of my knowledge, which can hopefully be a useful reference for members, especially younger members who haven't heard fo some of my older cigars or newbies, beginning to exploring the fascinating world of Habanos.

Problem 1: Most of my historic pic's are on an external hard drive but this app doesn't want to upload them so I am taking a fresh pic of the pic & hoping I can upload from my phone.
Problem 2: I am not sure how much I can get on a single entry but want to try & have a thread for each Marca.
Problem 3: This will obviously take some time but I intend to persevere. All pic's I post will either be from my archive or current stock.
Problem 4: There will of course be some gaps, some Marca's I never got on with & for the sake of completeness, I will create the thread e.g. Quintero's & anybody who has pic's can add them.

So I'll start at the beginning with a 1920's Almirantes. Obviously this is pre Habanos & Pre-Revolution Marca. Many were discarded post Rev.
You'll notice this was a double figarado format, this used to be very popular at that time. It's also a rather small cigar, again many were Pre Rev.
I smoked this New Years Eve 2014, at my local cafe in Antwerp, on a mild winter's day.

So what did an 90yo+ cigar taste like? In my diary I wrote: Amazing flav for a cigar nearly a century old, strong enough to taste in the cold. Shortly after the cafe fitted an inside glass smoking room, with extraction, obviously would have been better to try it in there but I was impressed enough to give it a 96pt score & that's rare for me. I followed it with a Henry Clay Cello Conchas from the 50's. I noted that was disappointing & not as flavoursome as a non cello H.C. Creamas. Some day!
Antonio Blanco Pre Rev Marca Corona 42 x 5 5/8" from 1917, smoked when 100yrs old! Was smokable & did have some tobacco flav left but was certianly beaten by a 80yo Corona.

    Pic's to be added.

Vegurous is the last in the Habanos lexicon. 😉

Never mind.... It was meant as a reference to the letter 'Y'

Nah, it'll come under D for Davidoff, listing by marca.
