A source who shall remain nameless, (just incase he might have more hidden treasures), kindly offered me these fine Vintage Havana's. Having crossed his plam with the appropriate amount of silver they duly arrived.
Monte No5's from the 70's, are always welcome. Many yrs ago, I gave my first 98pts to one & that was truly amazing smoke, came from a wel know supplier in Gib. I immediately contacted him for more but of course they were all gone. I don't expect these to b e as good, another 20yrs h as gone by after all & they will have mellowed but sure they will be very decent smokes.
Los Statos are machine mades but a very decent fishing smoke.
The rare find in my experience, are the Hoyo Shorts. So rare I have never had one. Maybe I was just unlucky but never came across any.
So today, after a suitable smoke, I chose it as my Sunday afternoon pleasure. Although called a Short it is Petit Corona size not a Tres Petit as the name might suggest.
These 2005 wrappers are dark for Hoyo's but I have had 70's DC's even darker. I punch it & the test draw was finelitcwith a cedar splint, I drew slowly to avoid over heating. The construction was typical of Hoyo & the flav was a tad stronger than you might expect from a Hoyo & a 20yo one at that. Although I paired most of it with a ☕️, I had wee dram of Balvenie at the end it it didn't over power it.
Ash hung on & was occasionally tapped off. Overall a very pleasent experience & I look fwd to enjoying the rest over the next 24months, as they won't be improving further.
