    Hi all,

with a grand total of 17 posts in about a year I should probably get the award for the lousiest member.......still, I have a question regarding the above.

I purchased a box of 10 of the above from a reputable (online) shop last July. The box looked absolutely fine, bands logos et al were all good and I decided to crack the box open and as it was a nice day, set out to smoke one...

I only managed to smoke half of it before letting it die in the ashtray. Why? An overwhelming bitterness which simply grew and grew with each puff. Slighty miffed I took the box to Sautter (you might have heard of it...) to get their expert opinion. Verdict? Not fake. Robust construction and all looked above board.

As such I let them rest in the humidor for 7 months or so until a week ago when I decided to have another go. Result? Exactly the same as before.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I have read many reviews online which all indicate this is a superb cigar. I have had many cigars since (Sglo VI; Montecristo 2 or Partagas) and do enjoy a strong cigar. The problem is this doesn't feel right. They are really un-smokable (and the first half is very much non descript).

    Any views?

ps: Post 18! There's no stopping me now!!!

seems you've been unlucky with your box.
please PM me to let me know where you got them from.
I have quite a lot of boxes, and so far the ones I've had have been indeed Sublime...

I had some very black ones which were very sweet tasting (and a couple were plugged), but not had one that hasn't tasted ok

I've only had four singles from various boxes and all smoked great. Given a choice i like my cigars on the dry side rather than Over humidified, may have been a tad wet?

            Hi,

I keep my humidor at around 68 / 70 humidity and the others are all good and all purchased from same provider - (Michael69, I'll PM you the name). I am really at a loss to explain this but the second half really is virtually unsmokable. I will take a fe pics of box and cigars and post here later. You guys might be able to spot something wrong with it but I really don't think they are fake.

            The plot thickens....

Sounds like a bad batch. Saying that, recent monte sublimes have tasted very mild to me. I dont like how they have evolved...from a king to a peasant in a few short years.

I think we can discount fake if the supplier is good and Sautters have seen them.

So can only be a bad batch or something strange with your storage. Where have they been stored (as a box) is there anything that could have contaminated them?

Whilst I would always recommend a couple of years ageing this wouldn't account for your experience. I find it hard to imagine they are in their 'sick' period. What is the date code on the box?

You can always contact the vendor and tell them, they may well replace them.

They are no longer in their original box (which I have kept "somewhere" in my shed) but have been stored for 10 months in my humidor which also contains Montecristo 4 and 2, Cohiba Robustos, Hoyo De M Du Prince, and Partagas 4. None of the other cigars are affected so I really think it's something to do with the batch. I should contact the vendor you are right.

                      Will let you know.

On a totally unrelated subject I am off to the isle of wight festival this year which is yet another great opportunity to light up! I am thinking Cohiba Robusto on the Friday night followed by Lusitania on the Saturday ( should last a couple of hours) and perhaps a Hoyo D (yet to be decided) for the come down on Sunday...

Only glitch is the booze which is limited to Carling Black label or Strongbow in paper pints....

DAMN (again!) should have used the later part as a new post!!!
