Tubee or not Tubee (did you see what I did there?)

I have noticed a couple of posts recently, Including one by the all knowing Mexican, on the subject of the advantages of Tubos.

I also noted with some interest that in some recent posts of humidors that some of you guys keep tubed cigars in the humidor.

So I got to thinking;

1. Why are tubed cigars better, other than protecting the valuable contents?
2. Why if they are sealed in their snug little homes, would you keep them in the humidor?

Having just bought a small tubed cigar as part of the "Short stop" experiment, and popped it into my humodor wthout really thinking, I am fascinated to hear your thoughts oh mighty BOTL.

Well, I guess that ends that debate...there ARE dumb questions! (just kiddin' mates. Everybody chill out.)

1. Protection is the advantage. You can just shove one or two in your pants or shirt pocket and off you go without concern that they will be damaged - NICE!

2. Tubes are not air tight. The must be kept in a humidor just like your other fine puros. They may stay fresher a bit long inside the tube while out of the humi, but I wouldn't rely on that.

I have read some debates regarding the need to open the tube while in the humidor. It's like the great cellophane debate - on or off, your choice. Personally, I leave the caps on the tubes while in my humidor.

In the early weeks on here, I asked how to store tubes in a humidor. Oh.. And WHY, also.

I asked whether one should unscrew them or not.

To be honest, I'd never thought about burying them in there at all, but a chatline developed about the tubish dilemma.

I got an answer that wasn't an answer and was made to feel like an outsider with additional needs. It was a raised eyebrow with a stifled titter response.

I couldn't shape the advice being offered on my potter's wheel, so I just lob them in the dor these days.

I've got over my oversensitivity and have recently fathered a jpeg of myself with a Siglo VI tube - a real sex toy of a tube, yes? - smiling at the world from my breast pocket.

It's a snap I cherish. It's all cool and manly.

Tubos are great for carrying singles around.

BTW, the bigger tubos, like the Siglo VI, are great for toting singles around. As Robusto sez, it's a beautiful tube that looks great sticking out of your top pocket or sticking out of the back pocket of your jeans.

I tend to take the cap off the tube when put in my humidor, im no expert but i feel it should be allowed to breathe. same goes for cellophane

I think you have been given some good advice here Kdot.I don`t keep a lot of tubed cigars at home, but the ones I do have are kept in their tubes in the humidor.

As suggested, it is convenient to be able to take them out and about with you.

I don't think it really matters if the caps are on or off whilst in the humi ...just so long as they're in a humi :-)
The great MRN reckons they age slower but differently if kept in the tube.

When recieving Tubes from factory if U notice they are never ,and I meen never sealed tight. When U take the tubes out the box the caps on most will fall off.
If the cigar doesn't have air it will not age properly. Just my $.02 worth.

You wouldn't understand...it's a personal thing.

Cap on cap off; cellophane on cellophane off - a personal preference, really.

I recently found some very old H. Uppman tubos which included a claim that the puro will remain fresh in the tube until opened. As you can imagine, when I opend the tubes, they were quite dry and hard.

I read an article recently on the history of cigar packaging which noted that the aluminum tube was never intended to keep stogies fresh; it was introduced as a marketing tool -new and improved packaging - to increase sales.

BTW - this was the very first question I posted on the CA forum many years ago - cellophane on or off - and the ensuing discussing makes this thread feel like a lovely stroll in the park with your best friend and finest Habana puro, which is why I dig it here!
