I've been meaning to report back after my visit to the Du Vin in Glasgow (One Devonshire Gardens).

I had a splendid stay and made full use of the cigar shack known as The Bothy!

I was hoping for some company, but apart from a lone cigarette smoker (in between his starter and main course), I was alone...

But what a comfortable place it was. The walls are solid from slightly lower than the waist, up. So complete protection from the elements (although the weather was fine during my stay). It has comfortable leather arm chairs, nice mood lighting and a gas fire should you need it.

I spent an hour in their with a Robusto and The Times after checking in after work, and enjoyed a Montecristo Edmundo after dinner!

The only downside was they cleared me out of their at 10.30pm claiming something to do with 'new laws' - however, it became apparent upon talking to guests that it's normally open all night and that U2 were due back at any moment from their tour and no doubt wanted the shack exclusive to them. Fair enough I suppose.

By then, after more than a few beers and a few glugs of Dalmore from my hipflask, I was a tad drunk and ready for bed anyway

I will certainly return whenever business allows!

It's funny. The du Vin in Embra has the same 10.30 rule and explained it as being something to do with neighbours, guests and noise.....
