US Embargo on Cuba, when will it end...

Personally I think it's dependant on the health of Castro Jnr.
Politics hasn't really come into the problem for decades..I think it's only spite against Castro for him sticking up two fingers at the USA that it's continuance is still ongoing..
It didn't work, it made Fidel a worldwide name & it certainly didn't help the Cuban people..
Obama can relax very few of the laws governing the embargo & I can't see those being changed whilst Fidel's little brother still heads the regime..only consolation being he is quite old.....
So ..some relaxation but no end in sight soon....

I was under the impression it is all about the ex-pat Cuban vote in Florida that are anti-Castro/Communism. In other words the US may well be quite happy to lift the embargo and trade but no politician can afford the lost Florida votes.

I have always believed that the embargo will be ended when it suits the yanks to end it. I think a Democrat President is more likely to end it than a Republican. One thought - if Obama is going to get tough on firearms, he may use relaxation or lifting of the Cuban embargo to sweeten the blow. Take a lot, give a little in return.

Not to get all political here, but it's the gun-rights folks that oppose lifting the embargo. The ex-pats usually vote for conservatives, so I don't think relaxing the embargo (which he did somewhat already) will "sweeten the pot" for most conservatives.


But what the hell do I know, for I am a simple, but honest mexicant from SoM, MX.

Surely the embargo is a good thing? If the yanks can buy direct we wont have a chance, at best the factories will overproduce rubbish, at worst all supplies will cross the Caribean to the good old usa.
