Do none of you guys go to CPC? They have electric heaters for about ?11.... They even have full size radiator equivalents for about ?20-25.

The electrical heaters don't put out the heat like a gas fire. And the gas fire will probably even work outside of an evening! Cheap as chips too.

Shame to hear about the moisture - will have to keep an eye on it.

You're right there, I bought a fan heater from Clas Ohlson and the elements don't even get hot enough to glow.

They are quite some rip offs.
I'm still going with the toaster oven or toaster idea.
with enough time and knowhow, you could even take the elements apart and make a legit looking heater out of it!

I have something similar to this in 1.2 or 1.4Kw I can't exactly remember..... It kicks out plenty of heat and was about ?15
