How dare you speak about my baby like that? She so IS cute!!! I'll grab some pics of my others later and post them! We have 3 snakes in the household and 1 lizard (plus associated live/frozen foodstuffs!)Originally posted by cigarmo View PostNo not cute, are you related to dracula?
And no, I'm not related to His Imperial Count Dracula. I am merely his most honoured and humble servant!

The snakes have no live food (it's against the law in the UK and even if it wasn't against the law it is unnecessarily cruel to both animals!). Their diet is primarily mice, rats and chicks. All of which are killed humanely and frozen (there's a separate drawer in the freezer just for this). The picture I posted is a Red Tailed boa which is only a year old so when she's older and grown I will have to take extra protection for security as she would easily be able to take a cat or dog if given the opportunity. My partner is a big fan of dogs so when we move into a larger house and get a dog, the snake will not only be in a locked enclosure but also in a locked room.
(Sorry for the semi-ramble but I take the safety and security very seriously. I am very much aware of the potential danger...I am happy to get bitten myself but that doesn't mean anyone should get hit!)
The live stuff is just bugs. We go through cycles of crickets, locusts, mealworms, fruit grubs etc. These are kept for the lizard (Chinese Water Dragon)

Fellow reptile fan myself, would love to keep one of these amazing beasts! Currently my lifestyle would be cruel for any animals, like most decent pet keepers (not owner- i don't believe we can ever own an animal just have the privilege of being its guardian) I would only take custody of an animal if I had the time, space and monies to ensure its welfare!Originally posted by Grahamsant View PostThe snakes have no live food (it's against the law in the UK and even if it wasn't against the law it is unnecessarily cruel to both animals!). You're probably right about it being an owner thing. But when handled properly and regularly, snakes learn who you are by your smell.
This girl was actually a rescue! She had very rarely been handled and was being extremely underfed and kept in generally bad conditions. When I picked her up for the first time she tried to bite my face! But I know that's not her fault and although she had caught me once or twice since she's gotten much healthier and her temperament had settled so much!

Wot. I just got home. Off to sleep I go.Originally posted by cigarmo View PostAlot of people awake at this time in the morning
Also, Graham : very nice! I've wanted a snake as a kid. Parents said maintenance would be too much so we got beta fighting fish instead.
We would've fed them live mice, though. It's how my mates cared for em. 1 live mouse a week
