Smoking in public in the UK

I'm guessing it's banned like cigarettes are?
What's confused me is that I've seen some web articles suggesting you can do it inside - places like the Harvey Nick's restaurant in Leeds, for example. The articles didn't have dates, so I'm assuming that they're from before the ban...
So - what's the etiquiette (and the law!)

What sort of reaction, if any, do you get?
I've smoked a couple outside different pubs in Boston Spa, without issue - but that's cause the pubs were dead!

I'd say anywhere outdoors...
As long as the smoke doesn't cause a nuisance, for say, people eating outdoors, i.e beer garden

I look forward to visiting something like the races, and enjoying a cigar in the outdoor atmosphere

The outside places are usually cigar terraces, plenty in London anyway. Other places having beer gardens should be fine, try not to light up next to someone eating , getting a verbal aggravation tends to ruin your cigar. Smoking outside a pub in Scotland, if there isn't a garden ie your on the street, you can't have your alcoholic drink with you, so who wants to smoke a cigar for an hour outside, with your beer going flat & warm inside? Research & chose you venues carefully & it's still legal but not always welcome or considered socially acceptable. As some have mentioned earlier, having people smoking fags, complaining about your cigar is one of the worst windups going.

This does irritate me, I've never had anything said but the odd glance. The bit that irritates me though is you get shunned for your perfectly legal activity yet there's plenty who smoke in a door way which is illegal (last I checked anyway)

I usually sit in the park in the middle of no where away from everyone. I'd love to light up outside a pub or coffee shop, but I get annoyed and angry with people pointing and saying 'do people still smoke those dirty smelly things?' Or the best one when children point and say 'mummy is that a bad man?' Bitch I didn't invite you and your family to sit under my tree, I was here before you. *end rant*

I usually smoke walking round a park also. What gets me is people find people who smoke ciggies that that is ok but people who smoke cigars get looked at

Luckily not had any comments or pointing, but it would wind me up and ruin my relaxation with a cigar if someone did comment. And as Roy said, especially if I was there first with cigar already lit and they came and sat near me!

I smoked a HdM Epi1 at a local beauty spot today whilst sunbathing and got a few filthy looks, overheard a small child regurgitate mums line "eugh! I can smell cigarettes, flithty!" So i laid back and put on my earphones and smoked for the next hour or so.

Yeah people are incredibly immature when it comes to seeing someone smoking a cigar sometimes; I personally feel it is jealousy, looking more class than them but then again others don't mind it, I think most people associate it with an older men's activity so it's just a different sight to see a young healthy man puffing away!
