I really like that khaki pilot, in fact I do really like pilot styles in general.

The 756 looks like a TW Steel, which is no bad thing in my book [emoji4]

I was wondering, if tungsten is so hard how on earth do they polish it haha!

Diamond paste.... Though you could use, Borazon, Boron Carbide, Rhenium Diboride, Titanium Diboride, Titanium Carbide, Zirconium Carbide, Alumina and Cubic Boron Nitride as these are the only substances on earth.... Apart from one... perhaps two super extreme rarities which are proving to be harder than Diamond.

Tungsten Carbide is actually marginally harder than the Sapphire Crystal Glass and much more durable than it.... So you would actually scratch the Sapphire before the case.

We use boron nitride at work as a release agent, the hexagonal form though. Find it fascinating how you change it's structure and it goes from being nigh on the hardest thing known to man to being as hard as butter on a summers day haha

So, as the gents from yesterday's herf will know I'm in the market to buy a watch as a little celebration/reminder to avoid spending money I don't have, because as of today I've finished paying off a hefty loan from living beyond my means as a young gun.

The plan being I'm going to use my first months money (plus a little more) that would have been another instalment to buy the watch. I have a few ideas of the ones I like but I thought some of you knowledgable guys will know of some little gems somewhere I won't know about.


It has to be automatic movement, preferably a leather strap but a bracelet can be swapped.

Something that can be worn everyday but more towards a dress piece.


Couple that have taken my fancy are the Tissot visiodate range

I had been looking at new watches until Marc pointed out yesterday I could get a lot more watch for my money with a second hand watch. Which so far looks like it could be a way to go!

Upper limit of my price range will be ?700, I know it's not a great deal for a watch but it's more about what it represents [emoji4]

Have you considered second hand watches and vintage. My daily wear watch is 70+ years old and keeps great time it's not auto but I've had loads if cracking watches that are. You could get an omega Seamaster from the 60's in your budget or something a bit newer. I've dealt in watches off and on for years and you can do a lot with ?700.

Oh and my daily wearer is a solid 18k gold Chronograph and it cost me ?600. Bargain.

My dress watch is one of these. Mine is a 70's though. Longines Conquest Automatic, you can get them for reasonable money.
