    Ouch indeed!

Yeah figured I'd get a rebate one way or another. I'll have to think on closer to the time

They take your monthly add it to what you've earned upto that point divide by the payroll month and multiply be 12. If you've just created in to the 40% bracket but won't be by the end of the year you should pay less tax in the last couple of months or get a check at some point.

Well a phone call to my employer basically said "that's what they've told us so ring them"

Phone call to HMRC said "I'll send you out your original one but now I've done that I can't check so ring back and try the new number if you pass a security check"

A second phone call asking to check my number against my details using the revised number proves it to be correct.

9 years I've been with this employee how's it taken this long? A question I asked myself, this was dutifully answered on my 3rd call to HMRC and they explained they've changed there system of checking and now it does it automatically, or something to that effect.

Anyway I asked if it's going to affect my pension going forward they said "probably not but I can check online" (believe it or not) so going to do that.

So all in all was probably my scruffy ass 17 year old hand writing that's caused all this who haa! Will have this confirmed when they send my number through.

Oh and the increase in tax is to do with how they calculate tax cumulatively and because of the overtime I've been doing it's pushed me up towards the 40% bracket. Am I right in thinking they guess what you're going to earn and tax you accordingly as last year I was still a few thousand under it and by my reckoning I haven't done that much it's just been in the last 2 months

Haha that would have been quite the silver lining! 9 years worth of rebate? Yes please. Unfortunately no [emoji26]

No 1000L was the new code in April to reflect the new tax free allowance being bumped to ?10,000 from ?9,400 or whatever it was.
