Fitted Suit Hire...

Hi All,

It's my son's Christening in a few weeks and instead of buying, I was thinking of hiring a nice suit.

Any recommendations where to get a 'fitted' style suit from, ideally in/around London?

I found these guys, but ?190 is quite a lot I think. I like the 'Harrogate' in Silver as an idea of style:

Go to M&S, buy a suit that is machine washable for less money & you get to use it again, & again. Thus saving money for the box of smokes to 'wet the baby's head!I brought a Moss Bros ex-rental for my Wedding & have worn it several time since. Here's a poor photo with a Party Coni Series D No2. If you want to be more formal than smart casual then Christenings are traditionally morning suit occasions.

I know they were doing suits at one point for around the ?100 mark.

Quite likely all the suits are 'fitted' .... it's you that isn't.

These days you can find alteration tailors almost everywhere, usually Eastern European, but they do a good job.

Oddly, I remember Jack Bunney's from the 60's, the shop was in Barking dead opposite the station. Nobody under thirty went there though, he belonged to the 'fits you everywhere, touches you nowhere' school of tailoring.

On a vaguely related topic, if anyone is looking for formal wedding hire Greenwood's are doing groom goes free and 20% in some branches, managed to save about ?300 in Derby (bloody big wedding and bridal party).

If its a fitted style you want and you're not a large chap you might try river island. Mrs Tommy found me a smasher in there for ?75 which I like more than the Cromby I married Mrs Tommy 1 in. Worth a look in.

Great feedback guys. I appreciate all of your advice. Bought the suit today. First shop I went in to, Debenhams, picked out a lovely grey suit. Bargain, jacket, trousers, waistcoat and tie, ?180.

Posed in the mirror with a BHK 56 in hand... Very dapper!

like a few of the gus already said a cheap suit and get it altered shouldn't cost more than a ton and its yours to keep!

I got my white tie set from there! I'm normally very picky about my suits, but decided that given how infrequently I was going to wear it, and the usual cost of the formal wear, that I'd go for something off these guys. An inexpensive trip to the tailor later and it didn't look terribly bad at all... Amazing how much the tails had to be taken up though! I know I'm a fairly short and squat man, but not that bad!!!
