What do you all think to the new way we are going to tax our cars from today.
Listening to the radio today chap from DVLA answering questions from people ringing in sounds a right pain.
My view is that they have been very quiet about it, so no doubt it will be a rip off
You're right Mo, what isn't being advertised is that when you sell a car the remaining taxation does not go with it. The new owner has to start afresh. gangster.jpeg

And thats how the money is coming in like cigarmo said a right rip off.
The seller does get a refund on unused complete months but it does mean the the government gets the money twice for the month that the car is sold which is a swizz
I had to renew mine and seeing as you get 2 weeks notice and it mentioned the change in the renewal notice the people that have left it to the last minute only have themselves to blame really.
What's the issue with the tax staying with the owner?
If you don't want to carry it across to another vehicle you simply ask for it to be rebated.

You only get a refund of unused months so if you buy a car on the first of the month you have to pay for the month and the seller doesn't get refunded for the month so the Goverment gets paid twice.
No different for me, I have been paying for tax discs online for some time. In the past when I sold cars I took the tax disc out to get a refund, and you only got each full month back then.
Plus side to it will be in November when people will be able to pay monthly although there is a 5% surcharge annually for doing so, however that is still less than the 10% they charge for only renewing 6 months on the old system.
