• Please keep us updated with all your sessions Simon. When is the Scotland trip?

Welcome to the fishing thread chalkstreamangler. Some fantastic fish there.
Do you catch pike while fishing for the trout? I can imagine them snapping at some of your lures and flies.

• Hi Simon

Great pics - thanks for sharing them.
The scenery looks absolutely fantastic!

I enjoy all types of fishing but I haven't fished for pike since I was a kid and that was with a deadbait and was totally unsuccessful! I haven't tried it with the fly but know a couple of people that have done, including one that landed a personal best grayling rather than a pike!
How long have you been fly tying?

Cheers,

Dominic

• Chalkstream, I messed about with a few own designs yrs ago but my most recent attempt was to recreate a jig that I had lost; that had caught me some bonus fish when ice was on the water & the pike wouldn't take another lure. It was a black rabbit fur tied to a jig that looked very good in the water & also worked well at dusk. Here's what I knocked up a few leaves ago. Have tried it but no luck so far. Here's some of the material I have already bought, just need some time to sit behind the vice during the close season & make a few passable imitations that I can use on Bute. Here's a pic of a new record Brownie from Loch Quien, which I came across yesterday. And a pic of my previous best fly PB, on my fave fly.

• Some very nice fish here I can't wait to get fishing again now ski season is over. I will be back in London full time from May if anyone fancies getting a boat and fly fishing anywhere within a few hours of London I would be interested, same with a day on a decent river.

• Well, was booked onto the boat again today, all week my brother and dad have been moaning that it's the end of the Cod season and that there might not be much out as the summer fish aren't quite due.

I don't know if it could still be beginners luck, or if I'm actually getting the hang of this, but ended up with seven for the table including probably the best I've caught, another four or five went back (two under size and two or three just because there's only so much Cod I can eat in a few days, I'm not the Rock! I honestly lost count at one point, though.)

That'll be my last bit of fishing for a while, will look at rods and stuff in a few months but starting my new job on Monday so time to work my arse off for a bit and make up for the past five weeks!

• Well done Timfy. Some good eating there.

I'm off to France next week chasing the big ones.

• Just had a fantastic week carp fishing in France. Between the five lads, we managed to land over 120 fish.
My final tally was 21 fish including 3 over 40lb, and 6 weighing 30lb plus. Pictures to follow.

• Simon Bolivar, what did you think of the online pike magazines?

• Many congrat's Johnny, now that's a holiday!Come to Belgium & you could manage a 60lb'er! Haven't look on-line at EsoxWorld since they stopped sending links to it monthly. Just don't get the time really.
Here's a better attempt I made last leave at a pike fly. The fly looked all right but it was the first time I had used the quick harder varnish using a UV light, head not as tidy as I'd like but don't think the pike will notice. Taking to Bute next month so will let you know.

• They look great. I hope they catch you a few on your holiday. I'm looking forward to the pics and catch report already.

Simon, I meant the new online magazine that has just started. Lure. Links were in my previous posts.
