...and that the only other type of fishing you do (apart from sea fishing) is match-fishing with a 15m pole on small commercials for F1’s, Crucian Carp and Skimmers.

He’ll reply “that’s not fishing...I’ll show you what real angling is all about” and proceed to show you the ropes.

    • Three months of blanking and I finally had a Barbel at 6:30am this morning. Absolutely (insert obscenity here) thrilled.

Magnum 50 to be smoked this afternoon on the bankside.

      • Many Congrat's Gav! A fine specimen, the harder they are to catch, the greater the satisfaction. Sure your Upmann tasted sweet.

        • That’s a great fish, congratulations. Makes me want to dig out the tackle and go away for the weekend.

            • Out Piking today, my first DB session of the season, having pre-baited several times. Had two rods on paternoster, one with half a herring, one with a smelt. A third rod, a drifter float set to 20'.

Smoking a RGPanX, when I had a decent run, only for it to have been from the Black Death AKA a Cormorant.

My RCB refused to play, I only re-charged it two days ago & hadn't used it since. Guess the batteries need changing if the can't hold a charge.

The cigar was the perfect fishing vigar, cheap & cheerful, raising the spirits on anotherwise unremarkable morning.

              • Ohhh to get on the bank- I’ve got no chance atm.
Sorry it was soggy, Simon but even so looks like bliss 👍🏽

                • Cheers GS. Had a better day weather wise yesterday, fishing with my daughter, who was over to celebrate her 28th B/D. We fished for 4hrs & although dry & mild, we finished runless. Most annoying thing, I forgot the flasks that I had made up & left by the door. So no drink all morning & therefore I didn't get to smoke the Hoy des Dieux 2008. Looking fwd to fishing on the Hants Avon, when we both stand a decent chance of catching in a morning.

                  • 17 For those who know, know it's true. 2/Just bought this collection from an old friend, who's down sizing. Normal avge price £30, I did a deal & then he chucked a few freebies in, which brought the avge down, near to £22.

                      • Well time to 'fess up, I managed four short Lure sessions on 4 of Ringwood Angling Assoc. waters for a total of 10 1/2 hrs & blanked. Weather was cold & wet. The rivers, which I had been hoping to fish were unfishable due to the rain & in full chocolate flood mode. So fished the gravel pits. To be fair no one caught anything when I was around & I did spend more time talking to regulars learning as much as I could about the waters. Disappointed not to get a take or at least a follow but have gained some good tips for March & June for sure. Now I am Isolating in Belgium so can't even fish my regular waters. Luckily I have my Oil Workers ticket to get me out of here next Tues & back to work.

Wishing all UFCF Members a better fishing year in 2021 & lets see more pics of big barbel, carp & pike, with accompanying fine cigars.

                        • Fist Barbel of the year.

Was in the water for about an hour and the rod tapped akin to a Perch bite. Very quick to get in and not a monster but well chuffed.

I fancied it today (as there’s a lot of colour in the water due to the floods) and packed a Magnum 50 last night so I’ll be lighting that up this afternoon.
