Respectable Newspapers

In general I would think it's fair to say that there are four UK National newspapers that are fairly respectable (At least more so that much of the dross). I know that many other newspapers get a lot of readers and I don't want to offend anyone by saying 'X' newspaper they read is crap because of 'X'

So how about a quick poll about what we think the most respectable paper in the UK is. Sorry if I missed your paper off the list.

We could also perhaps discuss in more detail what we think about specific publications and what we like about them?

Edit: I know some of this will relate to political allegiance, but where possible let's try and keep this away from hard politics.

Respectable Newspapers

I can't remember the last time I bought/ read a newspaper. I get my news almost exclusively from the bbc radio TV and apps. That's my propaganda mainline [emoji636]

The only time I read a newspaper now, is when I am waiting for my haircut.
And it is usually one of the comics like Sun, Mirror etc.
As smokey joe said, all my news is now Sky or online.

Don't read a paper on a daily bases anymore getting most of my news online or from Radio 4's today and PM programs. But the wife still gets the Telegraph 3 times a week (one of which is either Saturday or Sunday jumbo edition) as Waitrose give you a free paper as card holder perk.

Huffington Post... I've seen less biased political party PR men. It does not surprise me that it was once edited by someone from Stroud - home to a homeopathy 'university'...

Interestingly, many print newspaper groups' profits are increasing. Though this tends to be the case where they've done a good job of integrating a digital offering. That said, I don't see the death of the newspaper anytime soon - I certainly hope not, I'm a bit of an addict (often getting two or three a day...)

The Telegraph is my paper of choice, however, it's become a little bit too tabloid in its coverage of certain issues. As such, I'm going with the Times - certainly the one of the four which seems to give all sides a crack of the whip in the opinions and editorial sections - even if it is clearly a fairly conservative (small 'c') and economically neo-liberal paper.

The Guardian has never seemed to be able to differentiate between reporting and editorial. I buy it every now and again - and it always quickly reminds me why I don't usually...

The Independent has its moments, but clearly has its own leanings (as does the Telegraph, it's just with the latter they better align with my own).

An interesting addition to the list - for pure quality of reporting, by which I mean imparting the facts and analysing the impact, rather than opining on the rights/wrongs/morality etc, it would have to be the Financial Times.

I always used to read the Guardian but found I enjoyed it less and less. I don't bother reading any papers anymore (apart from flicking through the Mirror when I go to my nan's), I have been tempted to give the Times a try though, I just never seem to have the time to read through a respectable paper properly

Ok, slight more direct way of asking the same question then. Which do you guys think is most respectable in their reporting style?

We can open this up, who is the UK's most respectable news outlet full stop?

Telegraph was my choice for 25 years but recently I found the writing to be IMO sensationalistic in many instances and verging on tabloidish. I'm not really interested in hyperbole and just want a factual account of what's actually happening in the world. Sadly there is too much bad news these days so I tend not to bother at all.

The Times IMHO.... All have their political hue, but to steal a phrase from above i think with The Times you get a clearer division between editorial and copy.

Don't really read any daily blah, like others here I tend to stick to online news. However I do read my local weekly newspaper.

I wouldn't say it was the most repectable or anything, but I enjoy reading The Metro as it gives a simple telling of the facts, without a noticable agenda.

I then supplement with Twitter, and links to articles from there, for opinion pieces.
