  • Van based jobs

A bit off topic, well... Way off topic!
but does anyone have experience of van based work: postal/courier, or is there anyone who's a sole trader that uses a van?

thinking of a total career change, but trying to do a bit of research.

i like being out and about... Driving... And enjoy driving vans

looking into a career where I can do just that
or even look into a van based franchise, but where the franchise doesn't need to much training of a totally new skill

    cheers guys
    Si

My brother did his class 1, did long distance delivery and ultimately came out of it due to the nature of work.

I'd be happy with a van, keeping busy with it. Would be happy to invest in my own van too.

I have a friend that bought a van and did some van work but had to sell it and do something else in the end due to inconsistency of work and he was only just making enough to run his van. Sounded quite stressfull. Obviously different for everyone but I'd not like to do the 40 odd drops or whatever crazy work they have you doing!

I did my HGV class two a couple years ago and I wish I'd done it when I was 21. Lots of work out there. I love it, ten hours a day, 1-6 drops and I get to play with a crane! Couldn't be happier driving around listening to podcasts and audiobooks all day. And if you have to wait a couple of hours to be unloaded, there's time for a
          cigar.

lorry driving is pretty chilled compared to van driving because you're
chasing your tail Less and have limited driving hours

wouldnt like to do long distance though.

You could always sign up with a driving agency and do a few days van work to see how you like it?

This time of year companies such as Hermes are always looking for temp van and car couriers to help with Christmas demand. Maybe an opportunity to get a feel for it.

Personally I have heard more bad reports than good ones working on multi packet drops.
