  • All the doom talkers coming out. Plenty of markets have dropped not just UK, some have dropped more than us from what I can tell.

It will come back up and stabilise.

But just one thing to think on and please correct me if im wrong.... But a lower ? means that other countries get our good's cheaper, which in turn makes us more attractive to buy from, which in turn creates jobs.....

    • Just picked this up from the Huffington Post which is quite interesting. Apparently the winning differential was much higher in the North and Midlands. Next up, England and Wales seperate from the Socialist Republic of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

And then London separates from the rest of the England. Bring it on.

On a personal level my daughter lives in the the UK, stayed here after doing her Masters in Bournemouth. Has been in work ever since & has applied for citizenship but has another 3yrs to qualify, even with a British father.
Worry not, Brexit will have no influence on immigration. If the UK wants to keep access to the single market (and anything else would be economic suicide) as the proposed role models Norway and Switzerland, the free movement of labour will continue. Immigration from outside the EU is down to the UK goverment, in our out of the EU. The notion of immigration is a powerful tool to grab votes from the electorate, but the truth is, that there won't be anything the new government can do that they can't do already. The only option would be to have trade tarifs and no access to the single market, in which case you don't have to worry about immigration, since there won't be much opportunities left for people to come here for.

Theoretically, yes. But the UK has a trade deficit of 3-4 billion each year. That means that everything we have to import (40% of our food amongst other things as oil and gas) will become more expensive. Production and export are not necessarily the foundation of the British economy. What will be most crucial is how many jobs will be lost in the City. Without the banking sector, the economy will take a serious dip I'd say.

              • I am utterly disappointed at this result. I travelled today.... Out to madeira, so the plane was quite tightly packed with the over 60's. We were the youngest on the plane and probably two of only a dozen who looked unhappy as the rest of the plane cheered when the result was announced.

the whole airport was chokka of euro bound flights... Irony was not strong in bham today. I spotted the result as we were at the gate and a substantively older lady enquired of the result. She gave a yipee, and looked at me. I, with hands on my kids shoulders, simply responded 'its a really bad result'.... Her response stunned me.... 'Is it? Oh, i didnt know.....'

remaining needed work. Exit will need more. We're going backwards.largely voted for by an generation who seemingly raised the rest of us to know better!

                • Oh lord..... the blaming the old band waggon.
Perhaps if the "young" were that disgusted about the potential of leaving, more of them should have turned out to vote..... But hey, a substantial chunk of the younger generations wanted out too.

If you're daughter struggles to get citizenship give me a shout. Marrying a British guy should work right?

                          • Am I the only one that doesn't rate Boris Johnson? I'm far from convinced by his record of mayor as well

According to Facebook I may also need to move back into Zone 6 before London declares its independence! Either that or move to Scotland

                            • I doubt Boris will get the PM job I think May will be more likely candidate.

Regarding the result it's done an dusted now...bitter pill to swallow but now it's UK time to stand up and make a name of its self's like they did many moons ago...
The banking sector will be hit and cut...already Morgan Stanley have announce relocation nut again too early to see how much.

We still don't know what will happen with the EU UK negotiation whenever article 50 takes place...but imo Europe need us as much as we need them...if we can adopt the Swiss model...it's not to bad...the Norway model isn't ideal...but let's see.

Currently the market scares me as I'm still in the middle of buying a place...hoping we get to complete our purchase before any sort of interest rates get introduce but also hoping I don't fall in to negative equity..if the property market goes pop...like 8 years ago.

But I do feel for the family who've all made a life for them selves abroad within the EU...I have 4 good friends who've moved to Germany and Spain to make a life for them and there families.

How precisely will that work when we wont be able to trade anything EUR denominated (a huge proportion of what London banks do) or deal with any EU clients (again, a large chunk of the client base)? The finance industry in London will have a serious problem here. A story leaked today where Morgan Stanley were preparing to move 2000 staff from London to Dublin. The loss in tax revenue will be substantial. The French and German governments are licking their lips at finally being able to build up finance in Paris and Frankfurt. Their tax take will rocket.
