  • Lawrence Davis of Sautter Cigars

    Evening, folks.

I'm a bit of a Youtube addict as of recent and i stumbled across the SautterCigars channel.

There's some impressive cigars being reviewed on his channel. Here's an example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab9VPDIoFYg

As a disclaimer - I'm not bad-mouthing Lawrence at all as i believe you should smoke a cigar however the hell you like and enjoy it!

His smoking style is somewhat unorthodox (to me) and it's completely different to anything i've seen before.

He claims he does such fast draws as the smoke has the most flavour when it first enters the mouth... Personally i can't understand how he's getting the full flavour out of the cigar as the smoke must be getting so hot and spoiling it??? Video of him explaining his style - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbwDG7Ga4Js

What do you all think?? Do any of you smoke in a similar fashion?

    Chris

        The Muva'of all Muvas!

I got through the first 4 minutes before I had to look away due to all the pontification.

Good to see our old friend se?or Nic Wing again (Se?or Brokenwing to his friends). For those who may not know, se?or Brokenwing was a UKCF founding father and the creater of the London Cuban Cigar Walk.

BTW, does the old gent EVER recognize se?or Nic's presence and introduce him to the YouTube audience?

Thanks for posting the link, chico!

          Hello again, Bag.

I don't actually watch the videos, the first and only one i watched was the one where he demonstrates his smoking style, a friend referred me to the vid as it was 'different'!

Just checked his channel and yes, in the title of a few videos, the name Nic Wing shows up!

Did you get to the part in the video where he details his quick drawing? If so, what do you think?

Naw, I didn't get that far. Need to watch again when I have 1/2 hour to kill.

Regarding se?or Nic - while his name is in the title, I didn't see the elderly gent acknowledge/introduce him in the first 3-4 minutes I watched. I assume he did eventually, but he just kept pontificating in his heavy British accent while se?or Nic sat there twiddling his thumbs, basically.

No doubt he evntually gets around to it eventually...

The second video link is more to the point about his smoking style. And is ~4 mins I think!

As for the Nic situation, his name is in a fair few of the video titles so I'm assuming Lawrence introduced Nic a couple of times when he first appeared and then the regular viewers of the channel knew who he is???

It's funny as after you mentioned him, I've inadvertently just seen Nic's name on the humidor section on the hand-down sticky...

Cool to see people like himself are lurking on here!

Hey Chris, It pains me to tell you we lost Nic last year. A Very sad time for all of us on the UKCF, especially those of us who knew him personally. I've included two links regarding his passing. The UKCF ain't the same without him.

                  Keep 'em laughing!

On a lighter note, I went back and quickly scrubed/scrolled through the video with the elderly gent and se?or Nic.

DO THOSE GUYS KNOW HOW TO PARTY OR WHAT?!

Like watching a bulldog eating a jar of mayonnaise

I tried to watch his videos a few weeks ago, but the way he masticates the defenceless stick, and then when he withdraws it from his toothy cavern and its covered in gastric juices, i really struggle to refrain from calling the Hague for the war crime i just witnessed.

                      Yes, its replusive.... lol

No way he is getting any of the subtle flavours out of a fine cigar smoking like that, way too fast and way too hot. 10minutes in and the cigars are so dripping wet and chewed to bits.

Well. At least it helps in a "what not to do" sense I suppose.

I can't watch him smoke a cigar. I appreciate that he can smoke any way that he likes it best. But it's not pretty to watch and the cigars look like they are about to burst from the pint of saliva that is spilled on them. Also, every cigar smoker can tell a difference in flavour when you smoke a cigar fast or slow. The turbe charged smoking demonstrated here might get some certain flavours out of it, much like when you taste tea professionally, you overbrew it to highlight faults, but when it comes to enjoying a cigar, I think his style butchers it.

More like eating a cigar rather than smoking it.
