I couldn?t see anything on the forum on this particular topic and wondered if anyone has a specialist policy as they are cigar smokers?

Based on the ?smoker/non-smoker? categorisation we all fall into this category as any tobacco use in the past 12 months according to insurers.

I was intrigued to know some insurers in the USA differentiate between cigarette and cigar smokers but couldn?t see anything like this in the UK.

Has anyone ever investigated this and if so, where did you get to with it?

I've had my life insurance longer than I smoked cigars so never felt the need to tell them. I would argue with the anecdotal evidence that keeps coming out (the latest from Mexico) that we're less of a risk from Covid. Especially as I'm blood type O as well.

Some insurers allow a limited amount but it?s well under what we?d smoke. I have no idea the terms of my life insurance but it?s through work so it didn?t ask any questions or anything.

I would be hesitant about lying as insurance companies love any excuse not to pay out and many of the better paying policies require medicals that may test for recent smoking at least. When you look at life expectancies of cigar smokers it?s a shame we get tarred by the same brush but smoking is seen as all the same here legally.

Can't smoke more than 2 a year on my insurance. My wife declared it to them and this is what they advised

          Timely commentary!

I recently went out to get some life cover for myself - I do have some cover as part of a mortgage policy, but not extra cover. So I went out to get a quote. They do not differentiate between Cigars or other smoking. Just how much you smoke. So 3-4 a week at most seems to pale compared to 20 a day? So good I guess!?! This was never an issue, but I expect affects the premium.

Get life insurance early and when your fit. Not approaching 50 and fat!! Its a lot cheaper on the monthly premiums

I'm waiting for an appointment to get some kind of physical done before they give me a quote. I'll challenge them to a 5k run and/or a time for 150 burpees comp. though!

I've already had one request declined because - long story, but basically as you get older they find stuff in your system thats probably been there forever but you've never been checked before and by the time you go through all the scans and get discharged its too late! Thats a good reason to start early before you get too many scans done for anything!!
          .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

That's the argument against DNA genome mapping, it will uncover things in babies that will affect future insurance premiums.

It's going to be difficult finding anyone that doesn't have a genetic abnormality of one sort or another. The coding and replication process is not perfect.

My life insurance is loaded for smoking cigars and motorsport. The motorsport element is more than half the cost of the monthly policy. Smoking cigars was a lot cheaper.

I agree about not lying (which includes not updating your policy). I rock climb (did so today actually), drink, ride a motorbike, consume stuff, and clearly smoke so my premiums are massive.

I had my life insurance prior to starting smoking cigars, but I did ask the question when I had kids to make sure the family doesn't get screwed over. They advised as long as I was honest when the application was made there is no issue and I don't need to update them (I have saved the email just in case!)

hmmm asking may not be enough. Best check the smallprint. Most insurance has a clause about telling them about changes.

'tarred with the same brush...' an unintentional pun?

I'd suspect they will have covered themselves with this. Insurance companies can be brutal when it comes to claims...

I'm relatively young...but you guys have made me think it may be a good idea myself to get started with this now to ensure it's not too expensive going forward...
