• Fly Fishing Advice

Hey guys,

Any advice for a guy looking to start fly fishing? For the moment I don't expect to pay out loads of money, but also want to buy some pieces that will keep well.

I live in North London, so I know there's a few places within an hours drive where you can pay to fish, but a lot of the better places are much further up north if I'm not mistaken.

Feel free to point me to books, websites, shops, etc to get me heading in the right direction.

Thanks guys

Since posting this I have done some early research and it's a deep, deep topic, with many questions I need to answer before anyone can seriously help me with guided advice. So apologies for not doing that before posting this thread!

Give me 3-4 days to work out what type of fly fishing I want to do (probably fishing trout in rivers, streams and stocked waters) and what I think I'll need based on what I read and watch.

Watch this space!

Isn't Hookmaker the forum fly specialist? Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

I believe he is amongst others on here. I’m pretty sure Simonbolivar is too!
Max you might want to try driving out to Sportfish at Reading, great shop, their own lakes to fish, and casting tuition can be given on site with pre-booking

I've done a little fishing and can only say that if you think cigars are a rabbit hole... just wait until you start learning how to tie your own flies

Painful if you catch something in your flies.
