Currently reading a sci-fi series of books set during world war 2 but aliens have invaded. Cracking mashing of history and fiction. The series of 7 (I think) books go under the running title of Worldwar and they are by Harry Turtledove
Harry Turtledove wrote the first book that I put down half way through without finishing since 'War and Peace'. Can't remember what the name as but basically it was World War 2 with the names changed. I mean literally the names were changed for everything. Guns were 'sticks' (literally magic sticks), planes were 'dragons' etc.

Worldwar always looked more interesting but once bitten etc. Hope you're enjoying it, I love me some trashy sci fi. I really enjoy Neal Asher's novels, pure trash but great fun. 'Gridlinked' was the first he published but 'The Skinner' is the start of a fun subseries and a damn good read.

    • The first one in the series wasn't written too well I must admit. It was only the concept of aliens invading when we are in the middle of trying to kill each other and incidentally totally geared up for war. Everyone then stops and joins forces to fight the new invader. Cant remember which number book I am up to but its now in the sixties and the war continues. Great stuff even though I can help think at times it could be better written and probably condensed somewhat

        • Recently finished, "The Colder War" by Marin Katusa. An excellent book documenting how the global energy trade has slipped from the U.S.A's grasp and into Russia's. I've also published the latest book in my sci-fi series The Skin Territory which I naturally reccomend to anyone with a kindle that enjoys sci-fi!

            • The introductions first sentance is interesting :
It is not necessary to be a member of the tobacco trade to realise that the world wide practice of smoking is rapidly becoming, except for a small minority, a lost art and a limited pleasure . INDEED first published 1954, New edition 1961 if only they knew how lucky they were then !!!!!!!!!

A wonderfully worded and charming book. I find his work great to unwind with after a hard night shift.
