Was really impressed with the Hunger Games movie, so i decided to read the books. Am just over half way through the first one, and want to finish the second before the movie for that comes out. At the rate I'm eating through this one (i don't usually spend a lot of time on any books i may be reading), i should have them all finished long before that.

Very good books the Hunger Games trilogy. I've just started Stieg Larsson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. I have orders not to watch the film before I've read the book!

Good choice with the dragon tattoo, bit slow at first and can get confusing with all its intricacies but is well worth it in the end!

Just finished Great North Road by Peter Hamilton (good but long) and then Hydrogen Sonata by Iain M Banks - a culture novel which was, as usual, brilliant.

I have just read (for free online, yay me!) Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, it is not actually as cheesy as it sounds, it was written just after the great depression when America was rebuilding, the author spent time with Andrew Carnegie who asked him to study the work of the mega rich and interview all of them so this set of rules can be taken from them and given to the masses, it includes Carnegie himself, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and numerous other businessmen that you will of no doubt heard of, only a short book so give it a try, the stories behind every 'law' or 'rule' make for a good read.

Just re-reading Factotum by Charles Bukowski the Poet Laureate of Skid Row, nice pleasurable and easy book to read.

Hi Butternut.... Reading those collected articles made me realise that he wasn't simply the extremely amusing, totally insane, gun toting, eloquent druggy of "Fear and Loathing...." But also a very forward looking, canny, subversive and intelligent man..... As well as a fantastic nutter!

Yes! He has his bleeding PhD in journalism. I couldn't have figured that out from Fear and Loathing.. Methinks that book just appeased the masses because of the drug culture and las vegas (party) situation.
His essays (collectively together in his other books) are much more exquisite and for people who enjoy high-level literature. The Great Shark Hunt has him using a cigarette holder for god's sake! haha

Reading 'Wool' at the moment, the omnibus edition, so all books.

Throughly recommended. Set within some underground silo after the world's atmosphere is reduced to toxic shite after some unknown event...brilliant.

I was given a huge bag of Clive Cussler books and have been working my way through them the last few weeks. I am currently reading Polar Shift. I have to say he is a detailed and fast paced writer.

What kinda stuff does he write?

He writes a lot of marine based adventures, he has a series of books based on the NUMA (Numa is an imaginary marine agency), they are well written and tie into historical and scientific events. Clive is a keen sailor and adventurer so the books read really well.

I have a shelf full of his stuff. Amusing how he includes himself in the book bumping into the main characters at odd points

19th Century fiction - cigar heaven

I have been stuck in the 19th Century for years. Working my way through Wilkie Collins novels at the moment - great storytelling and you are never more than a chapter or two from a cigar!
