  • Tales Of The Injured

Earlier this week I was playing in a competitive football match, when I turned to chase a loose ball and burst off in a sprint. I heard a loud POP! It felt like my lower leg snapped in two and all the force pushing me forward disappeared, leaving me hopping in pain. Three hops later I'm down.

So as suspected when I sustained the injury, I've ruptured my achilles tendon. Looking at a 6 month recovery at least. I'm currently stuck in bed for a while, so will have to find some new hobbies!

Hopefully I'll be able to get outside for a smoke in the next 3-4 weeks.

Don't take the simple things like walking for granted!

So please share the tales of your worst injuries to give me something to read

Ouch. Cant you get yourself carried outside for a smoke!?

I get to tell the story of my old Uni buddy who popped this achillies playing basketball. Ages in a cast. When he came out he popped the other one! Back in a cast my friend......

I did break a collar bone once...
    .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Popped the other one!!! I think I would cry for days knowing the whole recovery period starts again. Unlucky guy!

I've never injured my collar bone but I imagine it's constantly in pain since it's always moving.

Many, many moons ago I tore an ankle tendon when drunk in the university bar. I was carried back to the halls where the celebrations continued (with me in a chair). The next morning I woke early with the pain and (I have no doubt still pissed) drove myself to Casualty (as we called it then) - the clutch was fun! They plastered me up and I hobbled around the campus for about five weeks. At one point it rained continuously for a week and my plaster started to disintegrate. I went back to the hospital and they slapped more plaster on top, so I had a proper 'cartoon' broken leg look with a plaster so heavy I could hardly lift it when I stomped around and couldn't change my jeans for a fortnight. This made me very grumpy and so, when some lunatic sped past me on the campus one night, soaking me with spray and forcing me to (try) to leap out of the road with my plaster anchor, I shouted wild abuse after him. I remember feeling distinctly vulnerable when there was the screech of brakes and the cry came back from the darkness, 'shut the f**k up or I'll break your other f**king leg!'. I normally tell people it was a rugby injury...

I'm feeling so left out, I've thrown motorbikes down the road, written off cars and been assaulted and my worst injury was a dislocated finger when I was fifteen. Probably jinxed myself now though!

Proper broken collar bone courtesy of my cousin while playing British Bulldogs when I was 11. Sent me flying off a stack of hay bales 8 feet high. That was a very sore one. Get well soon Max.

I had my Achilles’ tendon ruptured as well playing football a few years back. Painful experience to say the least

After the game, I thought I pulled a muscle, I drove home myself (you don’t want to know how) and went to work the following day.

At work I started to realize this was much worse than just a muscle and went to the hospital that evening. The doc looked at it, touched it briefly and asked me to be there the following morning for surgery 🙄

He wrote a absence certificate for 3 months straight away.

After being in bed for 1 day, I was getting crazy, note that at the time they were painting the interior walls of the house whilst I was in bed.

I made arrangements that as from the next day I was able to drive to work with a colleague who lives nearby and I scheduled my external meetings 2 days per week so that my father who was just retired at the time could drive me wherever needed.

I know what I did was crazy and probably a bad example, but Max .... just going outside for a smoke must be feasible no? Tongue

Soldier! I would not want to be hobbling around right now.

Well I'm at the top floor of a townhouse, so I'm not too keen on doing the stairs and I'm desperate to get back to walking as soon as possible.

Appointment on Monday, so I may come home and enjoy a smoke then since I'm already on the ground floor. Otherwise I suspect I'll be okay in 2 weeks to get down to the garden each day to smoke my sorrows away

Did you play football again after recovering or did you just take up cigar smoking?

Hope you get well soon mate!

Haha, well at 46 I’m still playing but of course at a very low level.

I drastically changed the position on the pitch however, I went from striker to goalkeeper 🤪

Snapped my left ring finger tendon playing rugby. Needed 4 hours of surgery to restring it and 16 weeks of physio to get my finger straight again! Doc said a broken bone would have been a quicker recovery!

Busted nose 30+ times, dislocated every finger 20+ times and my thumbs more. Ripped tendon off the right hand little finger. Cracked a bine in my thumb last weekend. Managed to get a hook embedded in my scslpmas a kid just before letting go of a climbing frame and dropping to the floormripping my scalp. Split my eye socket deep enough to see skull, and sliced my head open bone deep with someones nose cartilage when we clashed...
