  • Less is more?

It's a cliche I know- but winter drawing in and a pre xmas health kick has put a stop to my daily cigar. I have cut back to two a week and have to say I am enjoying the flavours more. Also I am taking my time and thinking more about what I am smoking. It's certainly made me think about how smoking less may, paradoxically, mean I get more enjoyment from the hobby (habit?).

Am keen to know how often other forum members light up?

Recently I rarely seem to smoke more than one or two a week, my smoking always takes a hit come winter.

When I have started smoking as often as once a day my enjoyment does tend to dip too as I don't seem to take the time to enjoy it in the same way. Almost just became something I did after work rather than to truly enjoy.

Now sometimes I smoke daily sometimes once in a month all depends on when I have time to properly enjoy it.

I think you have the right idea, that if you are enjoying it more than keep it up. I too find I smoke alot more in the summer, like everyday but once a week in the winter. That's the best thing about it not being an addiction can just pick it up when you are ready to enjoy

I tend to smoke two or three cigars a week, and usually at the weekend. It's a routine that I fell in to prior to this year so even though I have nowhere to go at a set time and nothing time sensitive to do, I've still stuck with my weekend routine. I do have to agree with Adamsmokes and simwells At the start of lockdown 1, I started smoking more and my enjoyment went down because it wasn't as special. SInce getting back in to my old routine, I've been getting so much more out of every cigar I smoke.

I've kept up with my one cigar a day, but then Nov has been pretty mild, but I do not want to smoke for as long now, 30-40min will do, and now I often smoke half a cigar in the morning and half in the afternoon, I chop it down to uncharred tobacco and then keep it in a Boveda bag and the taste is pretty much the same after a few puffs.

Nice tip, I'm not adverse to relighting a cigar the next day. Especially if I just want a quick puff

I think the idea of keeping a cigar 'special' is an important one.

CCs ought to be later that same day, but premium NCs you can relight the next day or even the day after that.

Why the difference? What logic is there behind this? I can't say relighting much beyond an hour really appeals much!

Davidoff is turning in his grave!

When it comes to cigar etiquette one of the few people who took it on themselves to write an official guide is Zino Davidoff, the founder ...

wow..some interesting stuff there, but so many questions!
                      • Allow the cigar to die a dignified death; after it's smoked halfway, it will go out on its own.
so he only ever smoked half a cigar...??

love to read the full essay

Generally NCs are far better constructed so when I return to a cigar I then have to relight a NC less often than a CC and the burn is more consistent, I do not judge a cigar on the second light up but still a smooth and hassle free smoke is best.

I only started this year! So I began with one a week, progressed to two and even three a week during the nicer weather. I've basically stopped since my injury and the weather would have slowed me down anyway.

Summer months will probably be once or twice a week on average going forward.

Smoking twice a week is my avge too Max. Gives me a long enough gap between to look fwd to the next one & is easy enough to fit in; one mid week whilst down the Cafe (in 'normal' times or fishing & one on Sunday's, after a nice roast. Few more on hols obviously & watch out for cruises - should we ever go again - they are just smokeathons!

Twice a week is where I usually am, if I had unlimited money it would be a lot more in the summer though to be honest.
