I myself adore all things Gervais, Merchant and Pilkie....XFM, podcast, Guides to...etc, etc
Karl's a decent guy who appears to be an uneducated boor but I reckon there's more to him than the persona we see on-screen. He's no fool!!!

In which case I don't know why I'm answering.
It was phrased as a question. Celsis appeared to be saying that it would appeal to those who know Karl Pilkington OR were chavs.
[EDIT] Phrased as a question to promote mature discussion, hence the word 'Discuss'. The trailers promote him as a man somewhat ignorant of foreign culture. An Idiot Abroad in fact... I could understand why that might appeal to those who don't know him but see themselves in him in the trailer. Perhaps it's actually an attempt to trick bigots (NOT THOSE WHO KNOW KARL PILKINGTON BEFORE YOU SHIT YOUR PANTS AGAIN) into watching the show and attempt to educate them out of their racist ways through gentle humour?

I'm not offended atall, being called a Chav was the offensive part.Originally posted by daverave999 View PostThere appears to be no opinion stated in the first post. Perhaps you are too quick to take offence!
However "Yet another attempt to glamorise ignorance?"
how that does that not clearly show an opinion?
Anyway, I've honestly had enough of this particular thread now. To me it seems clear what the intent of the program was, but i guess some people either don't get it or don't enjoy it which is fair enough however to publicly post your opinion on it seems like a waste and a subject that should be kept to the likes of facebook, however once again just my opinion.

I too hope it wasn't actually, as I said I do actually agree with you on many of the points you made.Originally posted by davidruddell View PostDo hope that wasn't aimed at me.
I used the phrase "target audience" because of the original poster saying "this clearly isn't aimed at you as a target market"
The point I was trying to make was that I don't believe, I easily fall into a target audience either, love a lot of low brow TV as well as the more challenging stuff.
Don't think I've ever been called a snob!
It's only a TV show, if anyone has an opinion regarding it, that's wonderful.
All these mentions of chavs and snobs is surely a little unnecessary, unless we're discussing Kerry Katona and Brian Sewell respectively, then fire away you're spot on.
My only feelings to this are that the OP of the thread clearly stated his view and that in doing so classed all people who do find this funny as beneath himself, and as for someone calling everyone who enjoyed this a chav thats quite honestly nothing but offensive and fail to see how it can be take another way.
I'm all up for the banter but others may not be, everyone has there own tastes and opinions, but the whole thread started with a post bound to offend some.

I think in future I will watch a program and make up my mind rather than worry that I may be tarred with the same brush as the "target audience".... after all nobody likes a snob!

I believe it was Oscar Wilde who once said
"I am not young enough to know everything."

wow, I 'm told I was insulting just got called a CHAV.
David I'm sorry if you felt at all insulted as our opinions on the podcasts and Gervias are actually somewhat similar, however on this particular show differ.
But others are clearly just not understanding the whole Pilkington thing and taking it seriously, it not meant to be informative but then again I guess the people who are calling it CHAV are somewhat older than me, and therefore much "wiser" as to the issues.
Anyway each to there own I guess.Last edited by Watkins; 04-10-2010, 01:52 PM.

Personally, I absolutely loved the podcasts - brilliant. The series has of this in it, and I'm finding it quite funny.

I'm with Dave - the very association with Ricky Gervais had me bumping 'stick pins in my eyes' up my schedule...

As Jib said, don't assume.
I was initially quite a fan during the XFM days
Just grew tired of the same shtick re Karl, every week.
I Love 'The Office' prefer 'Extras', don't think Gervais has made anything good since.
(I include all the Hollywood movies and Cemetery Junction)
Target Audience? I think 'Mongrels' is the funniest thing I've seen on UK TV for years.
Am I in it's target audience, absolutely not.
Watch 'Snuff Box', 'Modern Toss', and 'Monkey Dust' , clever, inventive, challenging TV, that's also so funny it's unbelievable.
I'll agree that Karl Pilkington is definably not as dumb as they make him out to be.
But the comedy they're making with him is not really challenging or clever.

I do still stand by the target market point and I too didn't like the cartoons but this new material is enjoyed by myself and my peers, who in my opinion are the age group it's aimed at.
I do ofcourse stick by the opinion anyone taking this seriously would have the opinion shown in the OP, but this is the exact opposite of the aim as I'm sure you'd agree from the early podcasts and radio shows.
