  • Back From the Dead!

    Not literally 😊

My last post here was about 4/5 years ago. Back then I was slowly building a small collection of around 130 cigars. I fitted a 1230 m³/hr extractor fan above the kitchen door where I planned to smoke. It shifted the smoke brilliantly… but not the smell, so I was quickly barred!

I then built a proper man cave shed, fully insulated, vented and heated, nicely stocked with whisky. Sadly, after just one cigar, my daughter and her friends claimed it as their own (her friends smoke) and turned it into a girl cave Pink and all! Cigars were a no-go and they practically lived in the shed.

Even on holidays in Europe I’d bring cigars, but constantly being asked to put them out or find somewhere else killed the enjoyment and stopped the collection growing - I eventually gave them up.

Fast forward a bit. My daughter moved out just over two years ago and I got the shed back… sort of. Around the same time, I developed pretty severe arthritis in my hands and wrists - also lost my job. Holding a cigar wasn’t happening (it’s that bad ) never mind installing the fan or setting the shed up properly

For Christmas just past, Dr Santa - gave me medication that finally started to work. January has been spent getting the shed slowly back into shape, and yesterday I had my first cigar in years – a lovely H. Upmann Majestic.

The fan is back up and running and does a great job, although the shed still holds the smell (next project) I now have the time to enjoy my cigars and whiskys in comfort. My hands still have good and bad days, but I’ve promised myself one cigar a week… for now.

    I’m back. (sheds still pink)

P.S. The cigars have been stored properly the whole time… obsessively 😉

Wowzerz that's some story. Best of luck on the meds. Glad you got your shed back. Hope you can get rid of the 🩷 pink! Looking forward to following the story. So happy to hear you managed to keep maintaining the cigars. They are becoming quite the valuable...
