  • Postage: A cautionary tale

Saturday 7th I posted a package of cigars to SonicStag at my local Post Office first class tracked. Then we waited and nothing happened, no delivery and when I tracked it nothing beyond being accepted at the Post Office. You can't claim for lost post until ten working days have elapsed and I was preparing to give him a refund next week. Yesterday he got the silver card and had to collect them and pay £7 postage because there was none paid apparently. What happened is that the postage label had come detached from the package in transit and I can remember this happening to a package at this branch before. There is no fraud involved, they just don't press the label on thoroughly enough. So you have been warned, watch the staff and if necessary ask them to do it properly. Incidentally I found reports of this on Martin Lewis's forum and a reply said that is what they have to do at their Post Office.
Incidentally when I posted another package last Saturday I saw the staff member tear off a strip of sellotape and stick it across the postage label. I thought it curious at the time but now it makes me wonder if they are aware of the problem.

PS The Royal Mail will not compensate you for lost tobacco products.

I noticed the guy collecting a parcel recently barely put the label on. It's in the system & being tracked so hopefully no issues. Think I'll print & stick my own & from now on

Didn't realise they won't compensate for lost tobacco products. They must get a load of cases where people 'return to sender' and it goes walk about

Royal Mail & Evri will not compensate for lighters or tobacco, that’s when you have to say it was a cutter or something else.

I would have shown them the photo of the box and said it was a humidor but an interesting update. I've just posted your Sharks and the guy at the Post Office said 'Please don't use this tape because the labels won't stick to it properly' as he put sellotape diagonally across the label. I had moved to the paper based parcel tape that Amazon use because its stronger but obviously I won't be using it anymore. The thin plastic based parcel tape is fine apparently.

If the guy at post office is saying it, then means loads moaning. Funny how the post office always find something to moan about & then they wonder why people are moving to other companies
