The counter terrorism angle is something that is very close to my heart. I have been fortunate that I have had a very detailed insight into the workings of the terrorists. It was frustrating on the day of the London bombs that I was teaching the Met Police how to deal with it and their procedures. Hard to stop the students leaving the course to go and help rather than participate in a 5 hr practical exam.

I find it hard to understand people who don't understand that we must everything we can to hinder the terrorists and halt their dastardly deeds. Perhaps I live in a simplistic world where white is white and black is black. Where yes and no are perfectly good answers and the word Maybe or possibly are not acceptable answers.

Quick question Kdot: which is your country & what does it stand for?

Mark should be a little peeved at being branded BNP for a tiny right wing view... National Socialism was a good trend until a certain Adolf distorted sensible political views...
now nobody in the world dare express this view for fear of being branded a 'Nazi' ...

Not peeved in the slightest. I spent 23 yrs serving in the Army to protect the freedoms that we all enjoy. Be that free speech, association and free press. If that is what he thinks of me then that is fine. I have fought for his right to think ill of me.

No one has been killed by some one in a buqua. But it comes down to doing our best at preventing a terrorist attack or a terrorist escaping by using it as a disguise then this is a small price to pay, by some one losing a small liberty for the greater cause then we must do this.

But I think that to discuss this subject via a keyboard is doing it an injustice! There is so much that could be said and the discussion would be very interesting. Perhaps a Ban the Burqua Herf should be organised so that at least something good would come of it. A group of mature grown ups have a cigar and stimulating conversation

If you go by my location you can see it says Glasgow, which is in Scotland, UK, born and bred. My grandfather fought for our freedoms in the British army in WW2.
Are you insinuating that just because I'm not white, its not my country. I love the freedoms my country bestows on its citizens.

I didn't brand any one BNP, I suggested the view given was in line with BNP beliefs. Something along the lines of we should treat muslims like shit in the UK just because they have strict laws in their countries. Its the law of the land, doesn't matter if you agree with it or not you obey it. Being military guys you should know this better than most. I don't agree with certain laws in my country but I wont break them as I don't want to suffer the consequences if I do.

All this gobbing off about freedoms but what about the women who choose to wear it. Believe it or not but not all are forced. where is there freedom of choice? If women are forced to wear it then thats another issue.

If the only reason to ban the burqa is to avoid terrorist acts then why not ban Halloween, scarfs, snoods and even beards these all cover the face. Its the same principle. If idiots are going to commit atrocities then a ban on the burqa wont stop them. If anything, a burqa is the least inconspicuous attire for a terrorist due to the attention it draws.

I have some right wing views myself, everyone does that doesn't make someone a nazi. But from your comments on this thread and previous threads I see you're very right winged and the thought did cross my mind. Are you a BNP supporter?

K Dot Who would you know to give that cigar to.
I think re security we may agree to disagree. How many young western women wear Burqas on a Friday night? Where in London Paris or New York fashion areas sell Burqas by DK or Gucci. I dont believe there is one woman, religon aside who chooses to wear a mask. NO THEY DONT or you dont know women, apart from an unfortunate ugly person.
I imagine the evening conversation `who did you see today ? `Er not sure could have been Sian no Sara or may have been ? Sorry to mock but i can only link this with a Monty Python type sketch.

you are right Mark the keyboard is not the right media to discuss a subject such as this, how ever if we start banning things were do we stop? and is there not a danger that we will push more people to extremisem (is that the right spelling?) if we do ban it
