  • New Wine Cooler Humidor

One of my wine coolers recently went on the blink and started to cool my cigars to a lower temperature than is generally considered acceptable so I purchased a new one.

To my surprise its bigger than the others (this one is 28 bottle, the others must have been 18) so happy days more room for fine smokes

Ordered from toyourhome.co.uk ?125 which I think is good value to keep your sticks at a relatively constant temp all year round (my flat gets warm in the summer).

Noticed you live in Surrey. What settings do you have in the fridge? Can you create humidity?

I have the temp at 18c (approx. 65F) and use beads which keep the humidity stable at 65-68% which is fine as I keep my boxes in zip locks which acts as a barrier to any fluctuations.

Can be used as is, I've seen people add cedar shelves but I don't bother. There's a bit of a new plastic smell so I'll let that clear before putting my smokes in there

Wouldn't the zip locks also act as a barrier against humidity too?

I think that was what Matt was referring to.

I also ziplock all my boxes. As well as concentrating the aromas I don't have to worry about big humidity swings every time I open the tuppers.

The boxes already maintain humidity for the cigars inside and as Monkey says the zip locks provide a sealed environment that concentrates the aromas and protects against swings in humidity.

Yes, making sure the boxes are brought up to where you want them prior. Not being in the longer term storage department myself, it's not something I do, but have read around about folk experimenting with vacuum packing also.

All loaded with plenty of room for air circulation, holding 66F/ 65% nicely.

I'd never be without my wine cooler now, effortless storage, the beads have held her rock steady for two years now and like you I have used no cedar, just old empty boxes to fill the spaces.

Regarding the new plastic smell, I found wiping out the inside with milton cured it.

Keeping three filled, a man can dream, I struggle to keep my single topped up
